Interesting day at the airport.....saw initial testing of electric Para-Glider Winch. They used a hub/wheel from an electric scooter. It is hoped it will pull up to 150 KG at 25-30 mph. They hooked it up to an "off the shelf" play-out winch from Europe to test the pull. It is not finished yet but the initial tests went very well.

The Motor hub weighs 70 lb and is 12kw (15 hp ?).

Talking to the designer he said an electric winch for full size ( more pull and 80 mph?) would be very easy using a standard dc electric motor.
