Can't go far wrong with a 85 HP Champ and ya oughtta be able to find one in that price range. If ya kin afford a little more $$ look at GCBC Citabrias 'n' you'll have a danged fine and versitile airplane! (finished my pilot training in a GCBC in 1980 'n' I REALLY enjoyed that plane)

    ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGG!!!!!!!!!

Ya know, 30-odd years ago I got all enthused about the DeHavilland Gipsy Moth, DH-60, circa 1928. I REALLY wanted to find one and restore it or to build a replica. The trouble, back then, was that there was no complete set of drawings for the aircraft known to exist anywhere. After awhile, it...

    leg pulling and the forum

Orion: :D PFFFFFHHTT! (That's a raspberry, in case you didn't recognize it ;) ) The canard, being like a forward-mounted, inverted T-tail presented some interesting control problems and with the "lift/roll vectors" I was never able to quite figure out how the controls would need to be set up...

    leg pulling and the forum

I've been involved in steam engines my whole life, traction engines mainly (self-propelled) and large scale working models. I work in engineering so I have accumulated a substantial technical and theoretical background in steam. I did a 1/2 scale model of an 1887 Russell 10 HP a number of years...

    Aileron control!

Tell us more! What do you have for an engine? What type of structures are you planning for the fuselage, wings, tail surfaces? What configuration - delta wing, swept wing, undercarriage, etc ? What do you figure for gross weight? Do you need a "jet endorsement" to fly turbine?

Your post Looks fine Sid; welcome to the Board!! I assume that BMW engine is traveling on wheels rather than wings ;)

    Howdy!

Howdy 5! " did you really want a Gypsy Moth?, after all, it wasn't Armed!" Nuthin says it CAN'T be :lex: "Update, redesign and start building a replica while waiting for a suitable motor to come along" That's kind of where my head's at right now. "There must be some small old...

    Howdy!

The pricing for the M132 was new. I have access to used and surplus parts and estimate I can put together an IO-360 (uncertified but well runable) for about $8,000 Cdn. If I was independantly wealthy, I wouldn't hesitate to drop $18,000 for a new in-the-box engine but as it is, $18,000...

    Howdy!

Ah, and there's one of the essential differences between fellers and gals! :D Ya see, it's like this . . . The Gipsy Moth is the purdiest airplane I ever laid eyes on! The way the straight lines of the fuselage gently arch into that smoothly rounded tail, the heart-shaped horizontal stab...

    Howdy!

$@##% $%&$%$ $18,000 U.S. !!!!!!! For a LOM M132 engine! That's totally out to lunch :wail:  There goes the Gipsy Moth project! I can piece together a 150 HP horizontal 4 for under $10,000 Cdn! Hummmm, maybe I had better go back and look at the poop on the Skybolt again ...

    Vibration dampening.

I'll leave the dynamics to the mechanical engineers  - us 'lectrical types don't haffta deal with asymetrical accelerations. :lex: What I will say (from too many years experience) is to use a "captive mounting system" so that if/when you mount/vibration damper fails, your Pjet is...

    insurance

Last time I looked at insurance (liability ALONE!) they wanted 10% of the aircraft value PER YEAR! That was 34 years ago but, at that rediculous price, we flew uninsured. (Didn't own enough to make it worthwhile for anybody to sue us anyway :gig: )

LOM M132 engine - good, bad, or otherwise?

Thanks Orion, that's good solid info - just the kind of feedback I was looking for. Are you taking a BIG suitcase with you?
  19. C

    In need of professional help....

Thanks Orion! That was the impression I was getting. Guess I'll look for something that works well on other craft in the same power/speed range. (Hrumph! There's GOT to be something here that I can "analyze".... ;) )

LOM M132 engine - good, bad, or otherwise?

Anybody know how the LOM engines are standing up in service? Good reports? Bad reports? (Usually, when I can't find anything negative online about a product, it means it's doing well.) Also, Moravia in Thunder Bay (Ont.) don't seem to answer E-mails or their telephone. Anybody else...
