    Sheet metal tools/various sheet metal

Three more sources: - Brown Tools - ATS (used to be Avery) - Cleaveland Aircraft Tools I'm had excellent customer experiences at those three. But also check eBay for tools and parts. BTW, were you able to get the Cri-Cri plans officially with a US address? Holger

Cleaning Up Garage. Jim BEDE BD-4 Book!

OK, usually I'd rather people not discuss the asking prices of what's offered here in the classifieds. But this item might warrant another datapoint. Bede's book comes up in eBay every now and then for $50 - $70. I bought two for $30 within the past 2 months there. Both were in excellent...

Request for ideas: working with stacked sheet metal blanks

Yes, I did that, too. Somehow I didn't have the problem when I was working on the ribs, and I stacked those 7 deep on the router. But they were 0.025", plus I didn't have to drill and didn't use the jig saw. I could go back to using the 1/4" router to cut out the openings, but I'm a little...

Request for ideas: working with stacked sheet metal blanks

Thanks. Yeah, that certainly helps on the drilling. Cutting the outer perimeter with slow cutting bandsaw also doesn't push too many shavings between the layers, but the jig saw is another story. I wish I had a band saw with an integrated blade welder :lick:.

Request for ideas: working with stacked sheet metal blanks

Ha! The creative juices are flowing! I'm afraid I can't get them cut and drilled that fast. Plus they heat up during machining. But it's a cool idea, and I'll try it out. Have you given this a try yourself? Easier said than done. I only have #6 screws to tighten, and the shavings still get...

Request for ideas: working with stacked sheet metal blanks

I'm building aluminum wings for my BD-4, and that calls for a bunch (20+, for several sets of wings) of access panels: To save time, I'm stacking several 0.032" alcald blanks together and cut them out with the jig saw and finally on the table router. Then comes drilling the rivet and screw...

    Anything Else Like A Bede-4C?

For a more modern high-wing, there is also the Glasair Sportsman. Not 200 mph (neither is the BD-4 with a few exceptions), not strutless, but still pretty decent speed range. Considerably more expensive (50k vs 30k for the airframe kit). Also not a real 4-seater. The Bearhawk is way slower at...

    Loehle p40 kit

When such projects are sold, usually only a fraction of the invested sum is recovered. Unless you don't mind waiting a few years until the right buyer pops up, probably not a good trade. You could post it here, craigslist and places to gauge the level of interest.

    Thatcher CX4

I don't really understand why that is. Yes, less people have the time and money to fly, but isn't something like this CX-4 (great looking bird, btw!!) a lower cost alternative to a 12 gal/hr sucking spam cam? Holger

    BD-4 TAILDRAGGER

I take it you saw N322SD: BARNSTORMERS.COM . Once one of the nicest in the country, damaged in a hangar incident, and beautifully restored. I have pictures that the seller sent. My N777LC just passed 1000 hours and proved to be a reliable commuter taking me from Portland to Seattle every week...

    Rod End Bosses?

I regularly buy parts from Vans and they know I'm building something else (I hangar at their home port). So I don't think it's a hard-fast rule, but yeah, still true what TFF says.

    sd-1 minisport plans

Dan: according to this, the chute *was* deployed, but then appeared to have failed. Makes me even more grateful that my BRS worked properly when I deployed it.
