How do I get this Great Plains VW to start????

This is for you smart people to solve: In the past I built a BMW (fuel injected) and skidoo engines into airplanes. They were easy to start. Now I am installing a Great Plains 2300 engine. It is a great product! Following the manual 100% I thought that this will go smoothly - it did until I...

Latches/Catches/Over-centre latches/Pull latches where to find?

These things are called by many names. It seems that they are easy to be found in the UK where they are called catches, but what is the source for them in North America, especially Canada?

    Magneto questions

Good day all you wise people! I have a FM X4B16A magneto and need to know: 1) The firing sequence is usually 1-3-4-2 in a clockwise direction, as viewed from the machine's control panel end. Is this also the case for the FM X4B16A which turns Anti-clockwise? 2) Turning the magneto, it gives a...

Why are the wings of seaplanes set at such a large incidence?

Why are the wings of seaplanes set at such a large incidence? The Catalina, for example has a 6.7 degrees incidence on the main wing with no wash out. On the rear wing (horizontal stab) the incidence is 3.7 degrees. Compared with a land plane: The incidence of a KR2 is 1.75 degrees at the root...

Please help! VW - Great Plains changing pusher to tractor

I have a brand new-in box 2300cc type 1 engine from Great Plains. It is a front-drive engine, (prop is on opposite side from flywheel) but a pusher. Looking at the manual, changing it from a pusher to a tractor engine is straight forward: The thrust surface of the bearing at the flywheel end...

Fuel injection for a 2300 c.c. Great Plains Engine?

I recently purchased a brand new 2300 c.c. Great Plains Aircraft Engine. The engine came without the fuel system. Since I have to buy all the intake components, I would like to install fuel injectors in stead of a carb. Are there any systems that are safe? Thanks Jim
