    A 55% SR-71 Blackbird under construction!

This one might fly well with J-69 (t-37 Twiet) engines. Rated at 920#/T and 300#/W each and with compact size...might make an easy 400Ks :)

    What is your dream warbird?

Victor Bravo; as usual I'm standing on the table like Hawkeye singing " you're the tops; the tower of pizza"...lol Pilot-34: I like "the cut of your jib". The versatility of our darling 'flying elephant' is beyond reproach...that is, except for those Cyclones leaving soot trails behind them on...

    What is your dream warbird?

Warbird as well as your "cabin ON the lake": Grumman HU-16 Albatross :)

Anyone want to see how tough a bird the IL-76 is?

Here is the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN6mnw7HuGs Check out the wind direction :-)

What are you designing, building, flying or interested in?

Yes; I am still at it. Building parts for a modified lighter weight VP-2 (non-authorized original build). Most noticeable difference will be the wing span increase, plus a reduction in chord (aspect ratio 7.46 : 1). Just finished painting the aileron cable pulley boxes I finished 2 weeks ago :-)

Crashes in the News - Thread

Why did no one mention the small power line that was broken at the approach perimeter (Harmon Rocket)? The aircraft type might have contributed to problems with glide path control (high sink rate). Also did not see any plastic 'line markers' on that 25-30 foot high obstruction. Never knew the...

    Boeing - Design Issues...

I am in agreement with VB, and I am an ex-Boeing assembly tech from the Winnipeg , Canada plant. The 800MAX is a "rat rod" project that got out of hand. The main fault being the refusal to re-design the center section with slightly extended span to accommodate the required longer under carriage...

    Replica home builts

Sounds like Dave Jacobson from St. Andrews, Manitoba. He built the original U/L "Beach Boy" stagger wing replica back in the early '80s.

    Replica home builts

I know...horribly late for this posting, but wanted to answer the call for the original spec: "metal tube and fabric" with a rare; one only in European museum. The Focke-Wulf FW 58 "Weihe" (Kite). Empty weight the same as an early Spitfire, but with airframe the size of a "Mosquito". It has...

    Static Thrust Calculator

N3puppy...the "standard propeller" setting choice is NOT lit up. Those calculations were made for a model prop which does not exist. Model prop makers do not list diameters above 36 inches (giant scale). No need to put anything in the lower box of propeller type. N804RV's Sonerai IIL has twice...

    Spars in a box

Hi Mathew! Mark Brown's "Starlight" was a classic example of simplicity. His 1 inch thick Sitka spars (wooden wing NACA 2415) overlapped horizontally with no taper into a socket built into the fuselage; one behind the other (offset) which had no perceivable aerodynamic effect :)

Crashes in the News - Thread

Sorry to be a negative-nanny, but why has no one here (assumed pilots/plane builders) even hint at the horrendous "instinctive" error in decision making those two individuals made in direct contravention with the flight school edict...NO U-TURNS ALLOWED ON TAKE-OFF!!! They had a river parallel...

    21st century Volksplane?

The fizzle-out was long overdue because of the conflict with complete redesign versus suggestions involving improvements to help the plane fly better. I have started my PV-2R (modified VP-2) with changes to the stabilator which will help alleviate a known tail-heavy condition by building it...

    Russian Argo

Thank you Bill for this very educational video. Nice to see the origin of this low Reynolds number production from the Eastern sector. My PV-2R production facility here in Canada, is only marginally better (a little more square footage) than the urban 'factory' shown here. :-)

I believe there is a data file for it in "airfoil tools .com" Airfoil drawing and performance charts.

WOW! Look at the tag on that VP-1. Empty weight = 615 #. ( Prototype was 440# )

Why Gas Engines Are Far From Dead - Biggest EV Problems

I love this! He is not prejudging whether one is better than the other. He does a great job of explaining the economics regarding production and potential end users.

    VP-2 instrument panel layout ideas

I was thinking afterwards that I should have clarified that. The 3/4" Baltic birch ply replaces the core of the bulkheads (too many 'sticks'...too much laminating). Looked for a modern answer to the ever present quest for reduced building time. Apologies for the swerve off-topic :) Oops! corner...

    VP-2 instrument panel layout ideas

Sorry, Mathew. I agree with the steam gauge concept (elder luddite), however I am using 3/4 inch Baltic birch for both bulkheads and have six 2-1/4" holes with lower edges approx. 2" above the leg opening and centered in the panel. Swift makes some nice readable small gauges and they are less...

    tedium Part 3: the "stabilator"

Not much to show at the present. Stabilator ribs have been completed...just cut all the rectangle holes for the 3/4 " X 3" Douglas fir spar board. One plank with 1/8" X 3" X 30" birch ply doubler adding strength to the middle 1/3 (both sides) of the 90" (mod.) spar. For direct airfoil...
