    grain angle on geodetic crossmembers

What started this for me was that I watched an old grainy instructional video that was pretty shadowy. I went back and looked at it again closer in different places and now I see that they do install them like item "B" I had thought it looked like it was item "A" This was a dumb question...

    grain angle on geodetic crossmembers

Wow lots of stuff to consider. I didn't expect this many replies. But now I have another decision to make about the geodetic. In the photo above the guy installed his by flatly routing them around eachother , it looks stronger quicker and simpler, but in a training video I have from the...

    grain angle on geodetic crossmembers

Thanks for the input you guys. I told him I would try to keep the grain as tight as possible anyway. He always gets back to me about anything I ask about and has been helpful and professional. I'll just keep that grain close and running length wise and go with that. Don't want to make too...

    grain angle on geodetic crossmembers

Edit: As a courtesy I pasted this short note from the guy who sold me the plans. I Thought you would be interested. Thanks again. > On the geodetic there is no ring count issue. Ideally you want the grain running vertical in the 1/8 inch direction, but in reality it doesn't matter...

    grain angle on geodetic crossmembers

I am hoping I can get some opinions about this. I am about to rip over 400 feet of 1/8" thick x 1/2" wide geodetic material for my plane. It will look like this: I'm not sure how they have the grain running on those crossmembers. My 'paint' drawing here depicts those 1/8" x 1/2"...

    Varnish

Thats another thing. I am a looong way from covering it, but I am trying to make it an ultralight so I will need the lightest covering I can find so the varnish will have to work with what I use. What is the the lightest covering by the way?

    Varnish

My main worry, or reason for this thread, is the T88 having a bad reaction over time to the type of varnish I use.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

Yes, it is a Fisher and I think they have what is called a Classic Biplane.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

Yep. You guys are on it. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

Oh okay. Right. I am building an FP202 Koala. There is also a Super Koala variant. So that explains that. I guess the "Classic" means the original Koala. Thanks a lot Topaz.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

This is on my plans. It is at the front part of the stabilizer where it bolts to the fuselage. I was just wondering if by chance someone here could tell me what "Classic & Super K only" means.

    Varnish

I'm building an FP202 using spruce white pine and T88. What kind of varnish would you guys recommend I order. ? Any special favorites out there?

Piano hinges - how to attach to wood

My plans say nuts and bolts cut and shorten the hinge pin and crimp the ends so it never comes out. I wouldn't want to do piano hinges on wood any other way.

    1st time using T88

Well things are coming along slowly but surely. I thought I'd post a little update here:

Telling them I'm building a Dog House

What got me was when the guy learned I was building an airplane and he got a perplexed look on his face and he simply said: "Why?" There was an awkward silence because I did'nt know how to respond. What's the use trying to explain it to somebody who needs to ask that question. Lucky for me...
