    Spitfire Mk1

Just obtained a set of plans for the Issacs Spitfire - this is a 2/3 scale of a later model Spitfire but the actual design and information are solid but what is need is 72 - 75% for an MK1 also I have no shortage of plans and drawings for an MK1. The question about the choice of a V6 - well at...

    Spitfire Mk1

I am looking at a 75% Spitfire Mk 1 in wood, currently have a set of Issac's Spitfire plans that are 66% and over the years I have accumulated a lot of drawings of the Spitfire so it may be time to give it a go - well consideration. No I do not want a 600 hp job just something in the Titan 51...

    NACA Duct Exit

Having read somewhere that a NACA duct exit should be a NACA duct entry turn through 180 degrees. Is that correct? This video link would seem to say yes but I seek some confirmation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtEsdUzlIEk

How Come We Havn't Seen This Before?

The Tucano shown uses a supercharged Rotax 912 fitted with the FlyGas supercharger upgrade suitable for a ring mounted Rotax used by the Tucano. This combination puts out a 140HP at 5800 rpm / 43'' MP for 1 minute and 135HP at 5500 / 39'' for climb. I believe the fuselage is designed to take up...

    Exhaust Air

My question is how effective will be the operation of the exit as described as it will be the sole means of expelling the heat generated by the radiator which has to carry the heat load from the engine and oil heat exchanger. The photo is of the replica to clarify and yes the lack of gear door...

    Exhaust Air

Mr current project is a replica Tucano T1 that currently dumps all its waste heat through the open wheel well which I believe is a mass of drag. Closing the gear opening means a method of exhausting heat has to be found. I have decided to use a closed ducted system exhausting the heat at the...

Electric pop rivet gun versus Air driven pop rivet gun, any suggestions ?

I am using the Gespia battery operated pop riveter and can only say I am 100% happy. My reasons were is the hangar only has solar power but just like the quite power on demand and every other tool is battery. With the Lithium battery's they either pull or not and then they just need a recharge...

    Hughes White Glue

I have used the Hughes FPL16A glue and would recommend it to any one. Once cured it is stronger than the wood but brittle if flexed a lot and this will occur at points were the joint employs end grain attachment; say in a rib assembly. These only become indestructible one the skins or the...

How do you build wood wings in a very humid environment?

Just a quick note on drying timber and glue. Light bulbs give hot spots and are easily damaged. The method I have used is a plain cheap fan heater with 1200 / 2400 watts. Just place a cheap blanket over the job to form a tunnel and place the heater at one end set at 1200 watts. This will give...

    Gear Doors

I am building the aircraft now and will use silicon cowl seal cut into strips screwed to the inside edge of the skin. This should then seal on the edge of the door. Thanks GTS

    Gear Doors

Is there any benefit in providing seals on gear doors for retractable aircraft? I have gaps of about 3 mm and am considering installing seals on the perimeter of the wheel well so that these contact the doors on the inside of the well when retracted. I have always wondered about what happens...
