Totally agree, just pointing out that you are not going to get a Raptor for $130k unless you are dumpster diving for audis the way PM did.

Except for the totally different materials used, control systems, lack of sparrow strainer on canard, and on and on and on.

PM's business plan was to sell $130k Raptors to the unwashed masses. You can't do that with a certified A/C engine.

One example: for wiring ducts he just bought a bunch of big plastic tubes from the hardware store. That's 10 pounds at least right there. There are lighter alternatives.

Alan Shaw had a company in Melbourne years ago called "Dynamic Wing". They built over 200 sets of wings/canards for Velocity back during the golden days (1990s). I have a set of Alan's wings on my own project. Alan has battled health issues and last I heard lives on a boat now.

Does your auto-conversion airplane have over 500 hrs TT?

Yes, just the higher HP - the lower end of the scale seems to have more success stories

Does your auto-conversion airplane have over 500 hrs TT?

Reading through the Raptor thread, I am curious how many successful auto conversions have over 500hr TT. It's been my observation that there are many successful ones at the lower end of the scale power wise, but too many fail in the high HP phase if the builder did it all from scratch ( did not...

On his website PM is selling kits but having the buyers come in and do some of the work. This sounds like 2 weeks to taxi type of build assist. For other kitplanes, that is really expensive. No way this can be done for $130k with low volume manufacturing. And by low volume, I mean assembly by...

    EMP's and aviation.....surviving the apocalypse

If your plane survives the EMP, you will still have to eventually land. There you will be overrun by the hordes of electrically deprived people.

    Affordable Kit for everyone

Affordable kits are out there. When you are done amassing all the parts the total spent is way more than a completed airplane. I speak from experience

That flight occurred in 2003. 17 years of fail. I am slightly bitter, because since 2003 I had been hoping to power a Velocity with such a beast. When 2017 rolled around and I needed an engine they were still not ready ;)

Some Velocities will require ballast in the nose if only the pilot is aboard.

Totally agree. For that amount of cheddar there is still thousands of hours of hard labor ahead of you.
