You will be very welcome. ( in Greek keik = cake)

Yes the "flying man" did generate interest in aviation throughout the world with photos of manned flight showing it was possible to fly. Even today those photos evoked the same desire to fly in the simplest way without the complexity of modern aircraft and enclosed in aluminium tubes.

mcrae according to your avatar your location is Wickham Lane which I passed by earlier today. If this is correct then we could go flying together..... It indicates a cake shop at that location so probably an incorrect designation.

I guess this forum is USA centric so it checks addresses in the USA first and found one that matched Rhineview. Quite a coincidence that it is the same general location that the Wrights were from!

HoHun, When I click on yours it takes me to a USA address. If I click on mine it shows my address in the UK. mcre104 might like to try clicking to get the "full half hour"...... Tony

HoHun, Click on your own avatar and it shows the American address. There are quite a few German named locations in that area. You will be familiar with the Otto Lilienthal museum in Anklam, Lilienthal's birthplace, I guess. Well worth a visit if not. Regards, Tony

From Rhineview according to your profile. If that is Rhineview in Dayton, Ohio then that makes them your 'local boys'.

HoHun, Going round the houses yet again will not change the findings of the contemporary judges. You have the links I suggested you read and I'm sure you will draw your own conclusions. As the Wright's were 'local boys' to where you live I hope that nationalistic pressures do not sway your judgment.

Then I suggest you read details in the link previously supplied (Wright brothers patent war - Wikipedia )where it shows others were using wing warping including Montgomery and Cody so it was in common use prior to the Wrights use. Boulton's patent was revealed so it was not undiscovered as can...

HoHun, What ever you say about Boulton's patent I'll repeat my words "The point about patents is the disclosure of an idea which negates any subsequent patent application of invention as there is prior art. It matters not if the patent is in force or not!"

The Wright gliders and the Wright Flyer had wing warping control through a prone hip cradle operated by body movement. Stick control came later when they flew seated. The point about patents is the disclosure of an idea which negates any subsequent patent application of invention as there is...

Lilienthal was flying his 'normal glider' when he died which used only weight shift for control. What is not so widely known is his latest glider had aerodynamic controls including wing warping so again the Wright's patent claims should have had closer scrutiny :- This video shows initial tests...

YMO, you re right about Lilienthal and his place in the history of aviation is assured. Having read about him as a boy and seeing a replica of his glider and that of Pilcher in the London Science Museum, I built a glider on similar lines. I even managed to fly it and later still had a chance to...

look at Otto Lilienthal, glider airodynamics, flight testing

The Wrights tried every which way to make money including selling their aircraft to governments around the world. The patent was for their control system and as I have shown there was prior art on ailerons that should have blocked the granting of their patent. In my book cooperation is preferred...

The hang gliding analogy is an interesting one which materialised with the question of who invented the "modern hang glider" and has become a long running saga where the disciples of one individual are claiming all of the credit for that person. I asked that a crucial document be published which...

And that is one of the problems HoHum the nationalistic nonsensical attitude to history of some people blinding them from the truth. In fact if I were to promote the pioneers of flight from the UK I could very well do so and they certainly would be up there with the most eminent. To start with...

Fair enough, hope you can see there is more to the history of aviation and its development than the standard stories of how the Wright brothers discovered powered flight and given all of the credit.

As I indicated political as well as commercial factors were at play. interestingly the Wrights denied meeting Whitehead, an aero engine manufacturer, when they were looking for a suitable engine to power their aircraft. How many manufacturers of aero engines could there possibly be in the those...

HoHun, Just to get you started a quick look on Wikipedia gives some of the details on the Wright patent which it shows was rejected at first so there is one piece of "evidence". Take it from there:- Wright brothers patent war - Wikipedia
