Harbor Freight Predator 670 V-Twin Horsepower tests

If you can pull start a Continental 65 You should be able to pull start a 1L V-twin. Here is a pic of a very old Briggs geared hand starter. some of the parts are still available if you look. Also looks like a possible canidate for some 3D Printing?

    Formula-I?

No. That is a huge undertaking. There are just too many combinations of cranks, prop inertia, reduction ratios and system resiliency possible. This is one area of engineering that isn't at all tolerant of extrapolation. There are only 3 HBA members, that I know about, that have the...

    Formula-I?

Not quite following your thoughts - and - I'm in no position to offer any suggestions at this point as I've not done any real world testing. All I can offer at this point is my opinion based on my past experience and what - my - version of the math tells me. For what it is worth, maybe not...

    Formula-I?

Kind of off topic ................... Airframe for sale that might fit in this thread: Quickie (not Q-2/200) Not involved in any way, just saw it on the Q-list. Tell him he can keep the Onan and your trailer will weigh less for the drive home. ;)

    Formula-I?

When it comes to resonance it is going to be on a case by case basis. Most racing classes based on these engines outlaw the cast steel flywheels. Part of the reason is the higher rpms compared to what we will likely see. Here is a comparison of a stock flywheel and a 50 inch long beech wood...

Interesting! A backward Spratt pivot applied to a prop?

    Formula-I?

If it is a ball bearing version then there is no difference between the PTO and flywheel bearing. It has been a while since I actually laid eyes on a real crank but the plain bearing version does have a little more surface on the PTO side.

    Formula-I?

Maybe plan for this after we actually get some planes in the air. I have an electric IVO that I bought for the Quickie - before I was told they shouldn't go on direct drive engines. Lots of potential performance advantages, especially with a PSRU for a dual use plane.

    Formula-I?

My IIRC is not so good. Couldn't find my old papers so I built a new spreadsheet. Took longer than it should - my statics skills are getting rusty. Long story short the 400# number is close but that is pound feet, not pure pounds. A 6 inch prop offset, to the center of the prop, not the...

    Puzzling out my electrical system

I only offered the brush thing based on the presumption high resistance in the circuit had been eliminated with voltage drop checks under load. Up the thread a ways I thought temperature was also one of the correlating symptoms? My 'worn brush' phenomena also often correlates with temperature -...

    Puzzling out my electrical system

I know nothing about the starter in question but offer this odd bit of knowledge: I've seen this happen with starters and generators where the brush wire on well worn brushes is now so short there is no significant spring pressure on the commutator. Particularly common with brushes using a...

Sold Mitchell Super Wing - U2 plans, manual and flight manual

Given the convolute California probate - Who knows. After Richard's wife died her sister got the rights. I tried to buy but she didn't want to sell. Even offered to just market them and pay royalties. Then she too died, with no direct heirs. Big dead end........

Companies that offer homebuilt liability/not flying, no authorized pilots insurance?

If you are only interested in liability insurance talk to your homeowners/renters insurance company. Some of these policies cover you for damages due to your actions while not on your property as long as it isn't auto related.

I kind of like that analogy. "Formula I-karts" ? Something we may have to seriously consider given that these things are going to be so weigh sensitive.
