    Chinook Plus 2

Thanks for all the info! Any idea what sort of brake setup they are using with the DR gear? The original non differential brake system always seemed a bit sketchy for tail dragger use in my mind. Also, do you have a any pics that show the structure and how it goes together? I haven't been ably...

    Chinook Plus 2

Thanks for the info. Having a repairman's certificate is more important to me than loosing some time to the build process. I want to be able to do my own maintenance, mods, and annuals. Definitely going with the DR gear. I am leaning toward one of Rick's 670s in the future but will start out...

    Chinook Plus 2

Anyone here have experience building the Aeroplane Manufactory Chinook Plus 2? Its one of very few designs I have found that should fit my budget / fun / safety needs. Looking at building it with a Rotax 670 or maybe a 912 if I can make the $$ work.

    Belite Chipper down in Alaska

If I remember correctly it has two in-wing tanks, a header tank behind the seats, and one up front somewhere. I do agree it makes too many points of failure.

Snoshoo IF-1 Racer Construction / Technology

One of the biggest differences between wood and carbon wings is the weight. Some of the new carbon wings in IF1 are getting very near to the sub 100lb range. If you build the fuselage skins and tail out of carbon, you might get close to the minimum weight required by the rules with a wood wing...

DA-11 no longer in Midland Museum.

I spoke with Leon's son Harold a couple of days ago. The DA-11 is still in Midland in a private hangar. It may end up in the Petroleum Museum along side Jim Hall's race cars but that is not a 100% done deal at this time. I'll update if I hear anything more.

Registering an ultralight as an LSA

Thanks guys. The airframe has never flown and it's about 90% complete. It would be very easy to break back down into a pile of components then document the build from there. It also needs the sails and a couple of other big components so I could provide proof that I purchased at least some...

Registering an ultralight as an LSA

Can someone clarify something for me? I know there was a certain time period that allowed owners of two seat ultralights to register them as light sports. Can a single seat aircraft still be registered LSA? I am looking at a Quicksilver 400 that has never been registered. If I were to buy it, I...

Why was the AR-5 retired from use?

I wish the Hiller Museum hadn't hung it from the ceiling. You can't get a close enough look at it to learn much.

6" Prop extension for an O-360 (fixed pitch)

I am looking for a good used 6" prop extension for an O-360 (fixed pitch). Please contact me at [email protected] as I don't check the forums here as often as I should. Thanks! Jason

    Anyone know what this is?

Why is it that 90% of the ultralight / LSAs I would consider building or buying are being mfg and sold in Australia........

    Anyone know what this is?

I just noticed it has two seats as well, so it's an LSA instead of a UL, but I'd still like to know what it is.

Wanted: 2 seat ultralight / LSA airframe in TX area

I am looking for a smallish 2 seat LSA. Something along the lines of a two seat Spitfire, Phantom, or Maxair Drifter, Challenger II etc. I am in need of a bare airframe only. I have a Rotax 503 ready to go on something.

    New aircraft - love it

Re: Fly Nano Let's see... No tip floats will make crosswind handling impossible, or very difficult. Underpowered for a float plane. Dragging that through the water fast enough to get airborne will be a trick. The wings are very short span and low aspect ratio which will hamper low speed flight...

    New aircraft - love it

Fly Nano Anyone else seen this thing? Flynano The prototype was shown at Aero this year, and supposedly the first flight is happening soon. Although I have my doubts about several things on the aircraft, it is an interesting design.

Looking for plans or maybe kit built ultralight / LSA

You got lucky. Around here they are impossible to find used, and if you do find one, the price is outrageous. There's one at out local field that gets flown 2-3 times a week on average, and the guy does acro with it every single flight. He's never had any sort of problems with it at all, despite...

Looking for plans or maybe kit built ultralight / LSA

I had looked into that one before, but it isn't aerobatic capable. The wings are strong enough, but there are issues with the tail. If I knew more about the engineering side of things I could probably make it work, but not worth the risk IMHO.

Looking for plans or maybe kit built ultralight / LSA

I am looking for something plans built along the lines of a Phantom I. I would prefer strut braced wings, and capable of mild aerobatics. Are there any proven aircraft like that out there? Light sport is ok since I have my PPL anyway.
