S2 Tail post not in materials list?

I am about to layout my table to join my 2 sides together. Knowing I'll be tacking to my tail post, I went through my tubing and didn't see any 7/8 .049 tubing. I haven't seen it listed in any of the other material lists. I do have a 6' stick of the .058 tubing though. The only place I saw that...

    fuselage welding

Currently I'm using TIG for my Sonerai fuselage. I have a "cheap" primeweld 225 machine. It works just as good as the 3x the price miller at work. A decent OA set up with 2 bottles, the hose, regulators, torch etc isn't much cheaper than a machine like that. I use use a torch with MAPP gas when...

    Fuselage side bending question

Ok, I'll follow along with what you did. Simplifies things for me. For some reason that page in my plans has 2 different stations for the bend that coincide with the clusters at red and red and I do have the 2 original plan set... But, I'm also the guy that found all of that improper info for...

    Fuselage side bending question

Thanks, you are who I was hoping to hear from. I did see in the post where I got that picture from you suggested the red and blue line. If I go red-red (which I did find matched with the plans) the longerons will lift up off the table. The manuals (or maybe it was the newsletter) mention that...

    Fuselage side bending question

This is our user group for the Sonerai since we lost sonerai.net. Our plans vendor is not very useful, they sold me plans with some obvious mistakes that weren't caught until I built the components as per the plans. They basically said I was SOL for the time and money wasted.

    Fuselage side bending question

Im fitting up my fuselage sides on my 2L. Thinking ahead to the next step of bending the sides inwards, I'm concerned with the horizontal tube that the rear spar attaches to. When I go to bend the longerons, that horizontal tube has to either be bent along with them if it is tack welded in to...

    21st century Volksplane?

We've been waiting about a decade for the Cougar... If they'd offer it to be a scratch build, I'd stop building my Sonerai and start building the Panther without a second thought. I'd pay good money for those CAD drawn plans and save money by building it myself. I waste a lot of time with my 40...

    21st century Volksplane?

This would be a hit in my eyes. I did mess around with placement of components and figure out on a spreadsheet how to make my Sonerai 2 to be flown solo from the front seat. However, since it is my first build I decided not to pursue it. The only thing I'm not a fan of with my plane is flying it...

Dream Plane Build / Describe Your Ultimate Homebuilt Aircraft

I wish SPA would get on it with the Cougar... Tandem 2 seat, aerobatic, Corvair (or Yamaha) powered. I like the idea of the tube structure covered in aluminum. And, I want the option to scratch build from modern CAD plans. If I could get away with using the Corvair and covering with aluminum on...

    Verner Scarlett 5V

It's too bad Teal isn't making the gear box for the Phazer engines anymore... I've come across a few projects that would have been perfect for it!

    1/2" bolts on carry through?

I received an email from Sonex after sending them a picture of the page. It does not match their plans apparently either. Somehow I got this rogue set of plans. It's not making much sense.

    Issue with Sonerai Plans

I called Sonex today to speak to tech about the wrong sized bolts I found on the plans and they essentially do not support the Sonerai, and they know nothing about them basically. Here are the issues just on this one single page of the spar carry through for the 2L Yellow is the wrong...

    1/2" bolts on carry through?

Well, that's unfortunate, I've through drilled those bottom 2 holes on the middle plate, through the entire assembly. When I drew the layout for everything on the front sheet, I realized if I followed the dimensions for where 1/2" bolts were located in the tubes they would have caught the wall...

    Trouble riveting

Takes practice. Make sure you're 100% square, and use a fair bit of pressure to keep the snap centered over the head. Also, get an air regulator on the gun so you can dial in the air pressure. Depending on rivet size, length, and material you'll want to change the force.

    1/2" bolts on carry through?

My plans say 1/2" holes in 8 locations. The two holes I have done are the bottom two on the middle plate. I'm wondering if I can weld a strip of 1/8" plate on the front and rear plates and drill the 1/4" holes? These plans came direct from Sonex...

    1/2" bolts on carry through?

I have my carry through 90% done. Welded up, and have 2 of the holes drilled for the bolts that hold the 1/8" steel straps/center section in place. My plans indicate they are 1/2" diameter, yet the bolts that hold the carry through to the airframe are 5/16"? I put the bolts in to hold things in...

    Finally officially started, S2L

I'm using TIG for welding, so there won't be much excess heat as I tack things up. I have more experience with TIG than I do with gas, and feel better about the heat control with it. I expect this table to be pretty chewed up when I'm done.

    Finally officially started, S2L

Well, 2ish years after receiving my plans, I'm making actual progress. Have my table all finished up, it's pretty dang flat and level for a bunch of MDF! Spent the afternoon laying out the fuselage sides, headed to the aviation aisle of the local hardware store to get some wood for blocks. See...
