    We say bad things about the French. It is unwarranted. Remember that the British were pushed off of the beach at Dunkirk. The French aircraft were excellent, and they also had good planes like the Curtiss, which in the CBI theater were said to be able to turn with Japanese fighters (Hayabusas)...

    A slightly enlarged, all metal, redesign of the Heath Parasol. Most any small European single seater like the Druine Turbulent, Jodel Bebe, Brugger Colibri, etc.

    I think Mad Mac hit the nail right on the head (if the formula is not extremely complex) and that Beam Column is the proper approach for this. In fig. 1., you have a buckled column with compression and moments equal to compression force times the lateral displacement (which Billski pointed out)...

    Heh, I always did the quick bounce and that would crush the can nicely - I'm not sure I ever had good enough balance to do the side poke trick and I'm not sure I ever even heard of it until you guys brought it up!

The subject matter you posted is actually in a completely different chapter from my old 1949 copy (smells slightly funky!), but mine might not have the Gerard method. Will look at this more in the next...

    I hate to waste things, and the Pawnee is not as useful as an ag plane as it used to be, and the usual two seat conversion is ugly, but this would make a good military trainer for air forces with a budget (Matthew posted a different video of this on Secret Projects)...

    I've read several different descriptions of crippling, given by people from different engineering disciplines, and the details of the descriptions seem to be driven by what that person learned about their specific area of engineering, but they all involve exceeding the materials yield point...
