1 spark plug or 2 (per cylinder)?

It is amazing to me how many "experts" are willing to cut corners. Aircraft have dual ignitions for a reason. The reason is safety. Mags fail, plugs fail, and all things made by man can fail. It just plain stupid to not have dual ignition on an aircraft and that means dual plugs also...

Foolhardy or just a Calculated Risk

The great fallacy of your post is the use of the term "acceptable risk". There are no "acceptable risk" departing from the way aircraft are designed to perform. What other "acceptable risk" are you willing to try? I can make a 150 do a skid turn with wings level. No, its not safe nor is it...

    Squealing radio

Dang, take the bead off the antenna. The only way your radio can squeal on transmission is if it is getting direct feed back from a speaker to a mic. Sounds more like A: a short in the headset it self. B. Radio in VOX mode if it has one. C. Radio speaker and mike not cut off when headset is...

N-numbering a Part 103 to ESLA, then back to 103 again. Confirm this is FAA lega!l

Re: N-numbering a Part 103 to ESLA, then back to 103 again. Confirm this is FAA lega! Once you register it as an ESLA it will always be ESLA. You cannot get it back into 103.

    Electronic fuel 3-way valves

I smell a disaster in the making. What your creating is an extremely complex fuel management system that is more prone to errors than the original Aerostars. On top of it all, your relying on an electrical operated device to do your tanks switching with out the slightest thought to...

    Latex paint on fabric covering

This always amazes me. You spend thousands upon thousands of dollars 100s and 1000s of hours on your dream project. Why would you not use the absolute best product for the type of material your finishing? Spend 85 grand building your Wizbanger 1000 Special with all the bells and whistles and...

Tough job, but I guess someone has to do it!

Simple. If you do not have a paper chart in your airplane, your an idiot. You should have your ticket pulled. In almost 23,000 hours of flying, I have seen everything, engine failure, complete electrical failures, Garmin much vaunted system that Garmin claims to never have failed, I have...

Ridge Runner 3 kit Wing Ribs Problem

Good lord man get a grip. He did not ask anyone for warranty. He simply wanted the factory to tell him how to fix it. Not pay for it. I, for one would not touch anything that the factory refused to answer a question no matter who owned the kit. Pretty sorry customer/user care and reflects...

Incorporating shock absorber into spring only landing gear

What does the plans for you aircraft say? If using a kit do only as they say on your LG. If it says a spring arrangement internal to the strut (ie think Ercoupe nose gear) adding a shock could cause major problems. The landing gear is designed to work a certain way at the typical weight of...

    Use of deformed nuts

The nuts with the "egg shape" hole are generally meant to be put on and not taken off. They are generally not a good idea if used in an assembly that occasionally needs taken apart. Metal lock nuts are great in high heat or high vibration areas. Nylon is generally acceptable most other places.

How flat must a workbench be?

Careful with using "engineered beams" used in houses. A lot of them are crowned so when the load sits on them they level out. That takes weight.
