    Fike Model E

My dad had a Fike Model E. Really was a nice airplane to fly. Extremely overbuilt. Sold it about 4 years ago and I believe there was a set of plans that went with it. You could check the Canadian D.O.T. registry for C-GRSM and get in contact with the current owner.

    Fabric covering

I was 99.9% sure I was going to use the Poly-fibre method to cover my Wagabond next spring, but then I talked to the boys from Stewart systems at SunNFun this past April. Now I'm not so sure. Actually wanted some info about their Stewart Wing Tips and one thing led to another...... spent what...

    Why no sheepskin upholstery?

I built a Flybaby and my father convinced me to use sheepskin for covering the seat. Got to admit it looked really cool with the open cockpit, not to mention it was very comfortable.

    Header tank in a Wagabond

The plans for my Wagabond call for a header tank to be installed on the inside of the firewall if using a wing tank/s. Not required if using the in fuselage tank. Why exactly is the header tank required? Short wing Pipers had an unusual fuel system in that the right tank could only be used in...

    Fabric Covering Systems

I was on the Stewart web site the other day checking out their Stewart wing tips for short wing pipers since I'm building a Wagabond and came across a link to their Hangar 21 site where they were advertising the Stewart System for fabric covering. Didn't give a lot of info but they answered my...

    Building a motor mount

Orion: Just thought I should get back to you and let you know what I found out. Went and saw that Wagabond, and the fellow was very helpful. He actually used a Colt motor mount, so he had no problems to work out. We removed the cowlings and used one of those laser levels that project a...

    Homebuilt Bush Plane

I was at the Hanover, Ontario airport a while ago and there is a Cyclone there on amphib floats and has a 3 blade CS prop. Saw 4 big guys climb in it after they fueled up. It literally jumped into the air after a VERY short takeoff run and went up like an elevator. I've seen this company at...

    Homebuilt Bush Plane

If a 185 is what you are comparing everything to, why not look at the Cyclone. It's a clone of the 180/185. I belive they are out of Quebec, Canada.

    Building a motor mount

Thanks for all your help here Orion. I start my holidays Saturday and have plans to go see a completed Wagabond about a 3 hour drive from home. Maybe I can coax the owner into removing the cowlings and let me do some measuring. Ron.

    Building a motor mount

Orion: I've drawn lines on my blueprints and checked as you said. A line drawn thru the prop tips is not parallel to the firewall. If anything the engine is tilted upward from a perpendicular line from the firewall. The Datum line in the blueprints is perpendicular to the firewall. So where...

    Building a motor mount

Sorry about the poor quality of that previous pic. Hope you can see the Datum line. Looking at the firewall it is just above the mid-point of the firewall and appears to run perpendicular to the fuselage Here's another pic showing the profile of the fuselage.

    Building a motor mount

Back in the civilized world again and I took some pics of the blueprints.... hope this has the info you need to help me. Looking at the blueprints, shows a Datum line that appears to run perpendicular to the firewall. This is the only reference to any kind of longitudinal line.

    Building a motor mount

I'll see what I can do. Might be a couple of days though, starting the late shift tonight. Ron.

    Building a motor mount

Thanks Orion. Your response probably saved me from making a big mistake. I've been all over my plans and there is no data referencing the thrust line. As I said in my first post, the only mention of the motor mount is the part number to order. I've called their support line also and their...

    Building a motor mount

I'm building a Wagabond and want to build my own motor mount. The plans only give a part number to order from Wag-aero and no details. I've looked at a few short wing Pipers and have most of the details figured out except for the thrust angle. In relation to the fuselage where do I measure...

    Tubing cutting pattern program

Was reading thru this topic again today at work and an idea came to me. Has anyone ever tried using their woodworker's compound mitre saw with a metal cutting disc in it to cut the tubing. Along with a carpenter's protractor you could quickly adjust the saw to whatever angle and cut your...

    Tubing cutting pattern program

I looked at your program and I've read other posts on here about cutting and notching tubing and I really think you guys are making TOO MUCH out of this. It's no big deal to cut and notch tubing to get a good fit when building a fuselage. I built my Wagabond fuselage using a 14" cut off saw...

    Is this Sitka Spruce???

I'm cleaning out my dad's shop (he passed away last month) and I vaguely remember him saying these two planks were sitka spruce. They are rough cut 2"X 12" X 16feet long and I see no knots in them. They have been laying in the rafters in his shop since I was a kid. How do I tell for certain...

    Wag Aero Wagabond

I found this site by accident while searching for something unrelated to aviation. You might want to have a look. It's a yahoo group dedicated to Wagaero builders of the sport trainer, wagabond and sportsman 2+2. Log onto "yahoo.com" and click on the link for "groups". Check the list for...

    3 or 4 place aircraft?

Not having been onboard that Pacer, who knows if they held it down and let it fly itself off. Topping out at 8500 seems odd though. We also had a 53 Pacer with the 135 hp engine. Flew it to Oskosh several times at +9500 with two occupants and our camping gear. this bird had the wing...
