    Learning to fly without instructor

Don, i know a (nameless, for obvious reasons) bloke who had a single seat heli kit delivered, had it assembled, rigged and balanced in 4 weeks, and cept for some off the books duel side stick time in a R22, gingerly taught himself to fly it. Id say that, with a thourough understanding of the...

    Robinson R22

Guveners are good while cruisen, and you gota scratch your nuts or doodle with the GPS or sumthn on a bumpy hot day witha xwind, but usless for any rapid power demand changes. Lead ( with throttle) or get left behind.

usual angles of attach for rotor craft

I am working on an antitorque system that will allow the rotor to spin very fast, hopefully it would takeoff on spot without pitch change. Unless you have a tail rotor, or VERY large rudder centered in the prop blast, you cant TO virticaly. Soon as you reach flight rrpm [ say, 330], there...

usual angles of attach for rotor craft

There is a set method for short TOs and the peddle position is know as soon as you start the roll, just like driven a car.Only have a nose wheel break as the mains get very light at higher rrpms and start to skid. The rotor, at full aft position, makes a good [ air] break.Made it up from...

usual angles of attach for rotor craft

My work machines [ single seat open with 912] best TO is bout 30 steps, no wind and full fuel. I break ground at bout 20-30mph with the prespinner still engauged till i get over wotever im tryn to miss. Its almost a virtical climb once i break ground till i release the prespinner clutch.

usual angles of attach for rotor craft

Im not a fan of sprin loaded collectives. If your go'n to add the complexity of collective pitch control to a gyro systm, why not have full control? It gives much more control over taken off n landn [ how high you 'jump', how steep you decend] and opens a hole new world of possabilities in...

usual angles of attach for rotor craft

Need to clarify the AOA question. The AOA of the gyro blade at S/L is @9* positive. The AOA of the disc is also @9*positive. The AOA of a heli blade is ** positive at S/L. The AOA of a heli disc is ** neg. IOW, both blades have positive AOAs, but the airflow through the disc is from bottom to...

    New rotorcraft concepts

A tiltplane takes off with its fuselage oriented vertically, but tilts over as it picks up speed to cruise with its fuselage oriented horizontally. To land it pulls its nose up while slowing down and it then backs down and lands with its fuselage oriented vertically again. Hate to be around...

Morphing airframe & Human interface rotor control

Sorry i never answered your post on the other thread Dave, i dont get over ere too often. Im interested in your idea too. And dont wurry, if you have flapn hinges, lift differential wont be a problem. [ no more than it is ona gyro.] If im readn your posts rite, your do'n away with the...

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

Someone might think he's a little bit crazy doing this type of maneuvers, They mite be rite too, ever considered it? ;) Thems flattern words tho Francis, even if you are overdo'n it a tad. Iv been sitn in that machine for a while, so if i havent gotn the hang of it now, i should give it away...

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

Running into cows is a bit extreme and maybe one shouldn't be flying at all. Wen i hit cows, it aint accidental.

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

a good combination of the 2 and there is no such thing as a no go area on a gyro. Mate, im a diehard gyro nut, but id never say that. Theres always the 'flyn conditions' to put in the equasion too. Certain conditions theres no limits, but theres times there are limits. Very small areas compared...

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

Was he still MOOOving? They do after i hit them, very fast too. ;) The following chart compares the safe zones between a Bell204 (red) and a very light autogyro (blue), not a fair comparison at all, but it shows that both have areas to avoid. i asked bout the area needed [ spots] coz i didnt...

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

I didn't see anything in those vids that my A-Star 350 couldn't do. Wots an A star 350? Can you get a new one for under 30K oz$? [ and build, maintain and fly it for 2000 hours without any major$$$? ] Wot are your chances if the noise stoped at 10', while flyn DW at cruise, over thick scrub, and...

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

My other concern is having the engine right behind my head, as far as noise, but and airplane is probably the same. Just wear ear plugs. Better behind than in frunt, where you cant smell it, or see it, but its still there, coz you can still hear it, just like a FW. Horses for courses bloke, if...

Are gyro planes safer than fixed wing planes?

But let's not start putting magical safety properties on them. Why the hell not?? If one type has some advantage over anather, wether its in performance, economy or saftey, them why shouldnt it be promoted? Iv flown FW, heli and gyro, and for wot i use aircraft for, i wont use a FW or heli but a...
