    Perfect Rivets

Keep the bucking bar highly polished. It will normally jump around a bit when bucking a rivet and an unpolished bar will tend to walk the shop head in the direction the bucking bar jumps causing a clinched or off-center shop head. A polished bar will just slide over the shop head but won't...

    Quicksilver Insurance

Right on. I think most liability risk would come from flying a passenger. Unlikely you will do much damage otherwise. You could have passengers sign a liability waiver if you're that worried about it. It is awkward to ask for it but it's protection for you. Frankly, it seems like buying...

    How to sell my aircraft...?

Be as up-front and honest as you can be about the airplane and tell the buyer it is a cash purchase with no guarantees. Somebody had to fly it the first time with no experience. The buyer can do the same. If he has no taildragger time, he should bring an instructor or taildragger pilot. That...

    Redrilling A Wood Propeller

I redrilled a homemade prop for an O-360 where the holes were not square to the prop centerline. I epoxied hardwood dowels into the holes and redrilled them. Seemed to work. As stated above, it is the clamping force that secures the prop.

    The Flight Planning Tricks Thread

I use Foreflight, fly only VFR and have a VOR but I always copy the headings, nav-aids and enroute center freqs on a card with notes about the destination airport, a carry-over from my T-37 days. My wife keeps an old mapbook on her lap. If things go to heck, I can get there with the info on my...

    IFR defined at airport?

IFR arrival landing is dictated by FAR 91.175 which says in order to continue from an IFR approach, pilot needs to see the RW environment and have the min. viz specified for the approach. The Minimum Descent Altitude on the RNAV approach to 0S9 is 960' (850' AGL) and minimum viz 1-1/4 SM so an...

    Prop balancing

I'd like to see a diagram of your hanging balancer setup. Maybe you already know this but the string/fishing line must pass through an adjustable ferrule near the center of the prop hub. The string must exit the ferrule on the upper end slightly above the center of gravity of the prop. The...

    Plans

The Bearhawk series would be good ones. 2 or 4-place, can be built from plans but kits are available. I like the Patrol Bearhawk Patrol | Bearhawk Aircraft Plans sold here https://bearhawkaircraft.com/bearhawk-parts-from-rb-aircraft/

    New home built aircraft project

There is lots of aircraft-flying, repair and building in Australia. Maybe you can take a trip, visit some airports, ask around and find who their suppliers are. Get an order shipped back to India. I see lots of 4130 sold in China but it looks like mostly big tubes. However I suspect it will...

Is the Long EZ beyond its coolness a good design?

Not true. Dig deeper into the Open-EZ topic at Canardzone. I built one, others are too. The FAA does not care.

Is the Long EZ beyond its coolness a good design?

There are Long-EZ owner/builders in Spain and lots in France. Probably Lancairs too. You should interview some of them. Start asking around at airports and EAA chapters (some of those in Europe). Find an EAA Chapter | EAA There is a lot more to a design choice than efficiency: What...

    BD-5 or similar

Wray Shelin has a whole series of videos on how to shape metal. What he does to form car bodies is the same as you'd want to do with aircraft sheet metal but it takes a lot of equipment and skill. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU4f0UCOfiB32Lo4Z6NDghA Bede's skins were very nice but they...

    Lycoming O-320 H2AD

I have taken to blowing moisture out of my O-360 after shutdown with an air-mattress pump. It only takes a minute and lots of oil mist and water vapor comes out of the breather. I recently had a look at my cam and the lobes looked perfect (at 780 hours). It seems to me that moisture left in...

How to lock a manual retractable landing gear into a given position?

The Rutan canard family generally used a screw and gear arrangement to position a nose-gear retract arm over-center. You can find the plans in the Open-EZ topic on Canardzone.com. It was a reliable, simple system but only retracted the nose gear. The BD-5 used springs, cables and the momentum...
