Airplane Designer Software (Work in Progress)

It doesn't look like there's an executable to download, it seems like I have to compile that software first.

Airplane Designer Software (Work in Progress)

Yea I've got that in there, and the wing area changes with the angle - but as the wing sweep increases, I was reading that the angle of the lift vector changes due to the air hitting the profile from the side rather than directly on the front, leading to reduced lift overall. I'd like to...

Airplane Designer Software (Work in Progress)

Hi everyone, I'm learning Grasshopper for Rhino, it's a procedural modeling add-on (free!). As my first project, I'm developing an airplane design software for my model planes but I'm also setting it up to be useful for full-scale builders and designers as well. Right now all I have is a...

Looking for an ISO 20’ container Flyer

It looks like the pilot's legs extend into the nose. Do they have to scrunch them up to get out?

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

PiperCruisin, you essentially just said "None of this matters as long as you never make mistakes/nothing abnormal ever happens". I admit, if you get VFR into IFR you have made some serious errors that should call your piloting skills into question. If you get a heart attack or whatever then you...

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

That makes sense - but what's the failure mode for a power loss in a FBW system on a single engine aircraft?

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

To be fair, Topaz was complaining mainly about the servo weights, which would indeed have to be pretty beefy. Plus any backup battery redundancies in case of power failure - and/or some way of transferring to push/pull linkages if the power goes dead. That being said, you could probably...

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

What I'm saying is that new technology, once standardized, can get cheaper and more affordable. I'm also saying that if you ever want the idea of a "flying car" to be even remotely possible in reality then you have to make concessions to varying degrees of pilot skill and training - which...

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

I just keep hearing the statistic, but here's something that semi-corroborates it: https://www.aopa.org/training-and-safety/air-safety-institute/safety-spotlights/vfr-into-imc While I agree that the best solutions are cultural, not technological, I disagree with your premise that we should not...

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

What's your point here? We all train to stay out of clouds. VFR into IMC still remains the highest killer of pilots. Therefor we should not create a safety tool that would help pilots get out of that situation if they get into it despite their training?

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

I think this could save lives in situations where there is unintended flight into IMC. Just mapping to a GPS beacon isn't enough in most of those situations. Also Aerowerx I think this might be the first time this sort of system is implemented in a light GA aircraft? The Citation is a pretty...

An airplane that can fly itself (Autonomous Vehicle)

Check this out. Diamond is developing a system whereby a user can input a distress code and the aircraft will find where it is and fly itself to a nearby airport. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1Juf-RynUo Ok, I already know the first comments, so I'll get them out of the way: 1) It's...

Learn to fly for the public

Hey thanks for replying all. :) It's me, I changed my name back because the last one is a mouthful. I ended up running out of time to work on this project so it didn't go anywhere. That being said, with all this resurging interest in personal aviation, maybe an easy to grock web series would be...

Here you go. There, now we're both done. :)

Where have all the pilots gone?

I think the main discussion of this topic (staying on topic) can be broken down into two things: 1) does the shortage actually exist for super reals this time? 2) the odds may be good, but are the goods odd? I.e. There may be opportunity in the aviation field but what is the actual ROI of...

Where have all the pilots gone?

Millenials didn't trash the oceans. Millenials didn't kick the bottom out of the American economy. Millenials didn't give away "participation trophies" to people. Millenials didn't encourage their kids to go hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt - so much so that the entire generation has...

Where have all the pilots gone?

Sounds too good to be true. For example, how long does it take you to get to that first year as a Captain? Is that once you finish the training or after 6 years of flying for peanuts?

Where have all the pilots gone?

You can't blame the kids for how they were raised. YOUR generations raised ours.
