    I went to several ultralight events back in the 80s, I was not yet a pilot. But was interested. They had all kinds of things going on. Cutting a roll of toiletpaper as it unrolled landing contests etc. there was always a plane in the air to look at. Thats what got me started!

    Why not EFI

    the secert to carbs on motorcycles is simply to turn the gas off and let the carb run dry, Every bike with a carb I've owned had a 3 position petcock on off and reserve. My Sportster will sit for 6 months and start right up.

    I think the true source of lift is plain old hot air. I get mine from Govt surplus, they have more than they could ever use.

    Yes and no on the Corvair numbers. Yes they made a little over 1.8 million but of those less than 600 thousand were the ones used for conversions. and the newest of those is over 50 years old.

    When I was looking to get a tw signoff, There weren't very many around then This was before the internet . I ended up driving about 250 miles for one I found advertised in Trade a plane. I cant imagine there are more now than then.

    Re-drives Belt or Chain ?

    The drive belt on my Harley lasted 20 years and 41500 miles and other than the wheel being off for tire changes never needed adjustment. A chain however will slowly give you signs of wear and they usually don't just outright fail.
