    USUA Membership

I asked the EAA about Ultralight Insurance: Q: Can ultralight vehicle operators get insurance through EAA? A: Unfortunately no the EAA insurance program does not include Part 103 vehicles, U.S. based aviation insurance companies are not willing to offer insurance for Part 103 vehicles. The...

    USUA Membership

It can't be a very big cash cow from what I have seen. I found a link to the USUA page that lists clubs. Of the 46 clubs listed, 13 had links; o which only four worked (one goes to a club that is no longer associated with USUA). Of these, only one was up to date... That seemed to be a theme...

½ VW Question (actually a complete question about a ½ VW engine)

I'm really only looking for engine dry weight, but I'll happily accept fully-installed-and-ready-to-run weight as well.

    Ultimate SI for u/l, EAB

An HD-based V2, V4, or V6 might be cool, but they don't get low enough for UL - unless maybe you go "Buell Blast" and use one cylinder form an 883.

    Ultimate SI for u/l, EAB

    Just for fun... If Verner were to use their existing cylinders, pistons, heads, etc for opposed engines, they could create... Eng. Cyls Disp HP O-65 2 66.6 26 O-130 4 133.2 52 O-200 6 199.8 78 O-85 2 82.8 34 O-170 4 165.6...

    Ultimate SI for u/l, EAB

I was thinking SI had something to do with the Metric System (often referred to as "SI" ... 'cause it's French, like FIA). I think the engine in question already exists. Verner makes 3-, 5-, 7, and 9-cylinder radials. There are two versions of the 5-cyl - one that shares 33 ci cylinders with...

    USUA Membership

Does anyone know what the benefits of a USUA membership might be? I am genuinely curious. Is a USUA membership worth while? What do you get out of it? Are the USUA and EAA Ultralight registrations the same or similar? What is the benefit of registering a Part 103 Vehicle? Does USUA or EAA UL...

It seemed like a simple plan...

Yay! I pulled the plugs out of the Hirth* and was greatly relieved. When Recpower did the overhaul, they put silver anti-seize compound on the plug threads which was a really good sign. The insides of the cylinders look new. The pistons look new (I don't yet know the significance of the "B"...

½ VW Question (actually a complete question about a ½ VW engine)

I’m gonna keep it simple and to the (bullet) point. I would like a NO B.S. weight of your ½ VW installation. I guess it would also help to know which version of the ½ VW you are talking about and its Rated HP @ X rpm. Thank-you all.

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

Sheet 4 of the J-2 plans as well. I really like the way ol' Jarislaw put things together. Any idea what the G-tolerance is on a J-2? It is +4/-2 (+6/-3) for the J-1B. I have not spotted it for the J-2 yet.

The Janowski Project - Rethinking the J1B/J2/J3

He did not. When I showed him how to find the answer he shook his head and changed the subject. To be fair, he has been reading very nice Lockheed drawings for half a century. He may be a little spoiled.

It seemed like a simple plan...

Okay... all is not lost.Recreational Power Engineering (Recpower.com) got back with me and it turns out that the 2702 uses the same Pistons, Heads, Cylinders, Crank components, Ignition, and belt drive as the in-production F-33. It's basically half of a 2702. So if I can get my project built...

It seemed like a simple plan...

I figured I would start on Airplane X by getting my engine ready for flight. Unless I build a glider, I'll need an engine, right? So I contacted Hirth and requested the maint manual and IPC for the 2702. Peter at Hirth replied that since the 2702 has been out of production for so long, they did...

    Formula-I?

I was thinking of a somewhat flattened, irregular pentagon course. It opens up the turns a little versus a triangle or rectangle. Any more than five corners, and I think it just turns into a circle.
