    Chilton DW-1 build in NZ

Thanks fly2kads for your comments. Stall around 38mph depending on pilot weight. Either wing will drop to 45 degrees but is corrected by forward pressure on stick to unstall the wing. There is plenty of rudder authority to pick up the wing and using the appropriate power input. recovery height...

Thanks again Lynn. When you look at my Chilton sitting in the Hangar with other types, it makes you realise she is a beautiful little craft. People who pop in from time to time ask whether I would allow them to fly her. Not a chance! Good luck with your aviating John.

Thanks for those compliments flitzerpilot. My cowling was designed by myself to look a bit racy but at the same time to give adequate cooling for the VW. It would not suit a couple of cowling cheeks. The cowling in fact was inspired by a drawing I have of the Hawker Hind which is based at Old...

    Chilton DW-1 build in NZ

Unfortunately Roy Nerou had to give up the Chilton site for severe medical reasons. I will not state his disability for respect and his privacy. He was a tremendous help with the construction of my Chilton and spared no effort to send photos and drawings by email the next day. As a matter of...

    Chilton DW-1 build in NZ

Yes it was built from plans. Material used was Hemlock. A wood similar to spruce but a little heavier The covering being 1mm spruce plywood. Please note DH type windscreen to allow me to grab hold of to get in and out. The original had just a curved perspex one. This old fella is no longer flexible enough to hop in and out like a jack rabbit

Thanks for that Referring to the air cooling. I take on board your comments referring to the baffles between the cylinders and do realise their effect. So far cooling has been o.k. One problem did arise with the fuel being not sufficient at full power. It being gravity fed to the carb...

The Chilton is finished and has undergone taxi trials. Will post a video when flying. In the meantime a friend has requested. Does anyone know the dimensions between the main and rear spars of a Piper Super Cub?

    Chilton DW1 plans?

The cockpit width is 24 inches. The leg room is quite sufficient for a 6ft pilot and your weight is ideal, the top weight being about 200 pounds.
