Is there anything out there like this?

An "A" model Sonex with the center stick would be a great, roomy single seater, and is available as a tri-gear, and is LSA compliant.

Trying to achieve turbonormalizing the home-built way

That's a good question, I only know it's an option. Edit: The VNE is still 261mph with the longer wings, but only at 2000lb gross weights and lower. No testing was ever done at higher gross weights. Source: Bede Representative.

Trying to achieve turbonormalizing the home-built way

A BD-4 with a turbo would be very attractive here. The current BD-4C version has a 261mph VNE. You can even build it with longer wings for better high altitude performance. Can be built from plans as well. If you don't need 4 seats, the options really start to open up.

Consensus on Lightest FAR 103 Wing Design

What about the Bloop? 204lbs EW including parachute.

Cheap aircraft are simply impossible? :(

Not to mention availability of materials, mostly sourced from big box stores.

    Murphy Yukon or Alternative

Yes, I strongly considered that project, I even talked to him on the phone about it. But I decided it wasn't the project for me. I was thinking in general if there were any plans that modified/updated the factory plans for more performance, cabin space, heavier engines, etc.

    Murphy Yukon or Alternative

Are there any non-STOL focused PA-20/22 based homebuilts out there? I'd love to build a slightly stretched PA-20 based plane with a decent cruise, that's not designed to land in 200ft.

    Murphy Yukon or Alternative

The Wag 2+2 I've heard is like a very wide Super Cub, 37" wide at the shoulders, 30" wide at the floor. Probably not recommended for 4 people. I've been very interested in building a Bede BD-4, for my family of 3. It'll ll do 120-130knots on 150hp, good range too. 140 knots should be easy with...

Wanted Bede bd5 kit or parts

I heard recently from someone at Bede Aero, that they are looking into reintroducing/supporting the BD-5. I don't know what that means, but they haven't 100% abandoned the design.

    Shrinking down a two seater

I've sat in one too, feels like a very wide single seater. The issue I had was a severe lack of legroom, and I'm 5'11" with average legs. The seat-back angle was **** near vertical too, but you could probably fix that. Amazing visibility though, very few blind spots.

    Learning how to "back drill"?

The spar and the ribs are the most expensive parts. The amount of work is bout the same too, as if I was building from new parts. I was reading through the construction manual last night, and found that some parts are supposed to be back drilled during new construction. Apparently, it's more...

    Learning how to "back drill"?

I'm sure I could save some weight with all those #30 "lightening" holes, but I'm not comfortable with that kind of experimenting at this point in my homebuilding career.

    Learning how to "back drill"?

I'm starting to think it's not as complicated as I originally thought. Thanks for the tips and suggestions, I'll probably be using all of them. Should I look into long drill bits, 90degree drill attachments, or both? Which do you think are more helpful? Or are they equally useful in the right...

    Learning how to "back drill"?

Reskin left wing and replace a couple ribs, reskin right wing leading edge, replace rudder leading edge, reskin fuselage, replace center spar, new firewall, new landing gear, etc. It's just a couple little things, just kidding.

    Learning how to "back drill"?

I knew about those and am going to get some. I was under the impression that they were only for a few hard to duplicate holes. I'm looking at hundreds of holes.

    Learning how to "back drill"?

I'll have to look through my back issues. I may have overlooked it since this has only recently entered my mind.

    Learning how to "back drill"?

I recently acquired a damaged Zenith 601HD(the one without the "wing issues") and need to do a lot of repairs. Since this is an early kit, it doesn't have many pre-drilled parts. When I get new panels and skins, I'll probably have to drill many of the parts from the backside through the existing...

Beginner builder repairing a damaged aiircraft

Well, I obviously wouldn't have him look it over, he might tell me to just scrap the whole thing. There are a few TC's I can talk to.

Beginner builder repairing a damaged aiircraft

I don't plan on rushing the work, I doubt I could anyway, due to funding and adulting. I do plan on having a Tech Counselor look it over, though one of our Counselors is very anti-Zenith, for some reason. Also, one of the Chapter members is 90% done scratch-building the same model, which is a...
