Who does the FAA answer to?

I think I'm slightly out of phase or maybe I am from another planet. A lot of things and people don't make sense to me. So I guess I must be from Another Time and Another Place But even with it's problems, it's still the best place on this planet

Who does the FAA answer to?

Just in case anyone thinks I'm just a whiner... I still think that this is the best country on the planet and not only that, that it is the best country that has ever been on the planet. (With Oz a close second) There's just a couple things that need to be fixed (imho)

Who does the FAA answer to?

When I wrote back and told her the FAA was making outlaws out of ultralight fliers. She wanted to know what airport I flew out of and what kind of plane I flew. Why do you suppose she wanted to know that? I felt like asking if I should just paint a big target on my chest. Anyway it worked....I...

    Automotive Spark plugs

It helps a lot if you shop for them. I recently bought plugs (XMD-15) that were $15 some places, for less than $7 (delivered) at NAPA (they had to order them). If you give them enough info, they can probably find them

Who does the FAA answer to?

The question I keep asking myself is "Why the resistance to a weight increase"? Most people I know or have talked to are 300-325 lbs. What would an increase to that hurt? (I don't buy into the "slippery slope theory") Does anyone know how the arbitrary 254 lbs was arrived at? I heard an FAA guy...

Who does the FAA answer to?

Ok the blood pressure is down a bit now. I'll refer to another situation which gets it back up again "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" The FAA is making (almost) 100% of ultralight fliers "outlaws" So be it !

Who does the FAA answer to?

No not a single employee, rather the policy makers themselves (who ever "they" is).

Who does the FAA answer to?

I have no doubt that the FAA does do good (either by design or by accident). It's just that it really rubs me the wrong way when an employee essentially tells me to be happy with the bones they throw me from their table or they will fire me. It makes me think there is a definite need for an...

    Initial Disappointment with EAA

I see those statements from the FAA as threats, and aren't they supposed to work FOR us? Who made them undisputed gods of the skies? How bout if we fire the creeps? (I don't do well with threats) I think the EAA needs more wolves and less sheep running things.

    Initial Disappointment with EAA

(Mr Mono) Many attempts have been made in the past for weight increases to FAR 103. The FAA has denied all of them and said that before they would make changes to FAR 103, they would eliminate that rule from the FAR's. FAR 103 is by far the least restricted type of flying allowed in the US...

    Initial Disappointment with EAA

I wrote to the EAA just a day or two ago (right after I got my renewal notice) and asked them what they are doing for fixed wing ultralights and if they were doing anything to get the weight limited upped. Of the 3 emails I sent I got one response which stated that the FAA said they would never...

    Engine Mounts

Speaking of rubber mounts The Lord Mounts I am familiar with look like the one in the lower right corner of this pic.... But they seem to be using a different type now, like the ones in the above illustration by WileEZ. Why is that?

    Best Adjustable Prop?

The problem with this group of engines is that they are very experimental and all the experimenters are trying all sorts of different things to get max HP out of them. One experiment was to lessen the pitch so that max RPMs could be attained and therefore max HP. That experiment turned out to...

    Best Adjustable Prop?

The 4A084 is a military surplus engine. 84 CI around 40 hp @ 3600 Direct drive 54x28 props are used with good results I am told This is not mine, but a good example after it has been cleaned up and aviationized

    Best Adjustable Prop?

This will be going on a 4 cylinder 4 cycle engine. Guys are using 54-55" props. Tuning the prop for best power output is what I hope to achieve. This is a 4A084 engine that generates about 40-45 hp depending on who you talk to. I'll look at the Powerfin line. Thanks PS Do you think a 2 blade...

    Best Adjustable Prop?

Is there a consensus of opinion on who makes the best ground adjustable prop? (for an ultralight) I have read about some of them flying apart etc.
