    Bug glider powered?

I would have to agree.. What you have described here is basically an underpowered Quicksilver. Altering the structure of the BUG to suit pusher config will most likely require designing an A-frame style twin boom system like a quicksilver, which will increase drag over the current design, plus...

    Recommendations for 2-place high-wing?

If your handy with the tools and don't mind putting in the hours, you should easily be able to build a Corvair powered CH-750 for under $20,000. Thats from scratch. Rotax powered kit will put you in the $50k range.

    Afordable biplane

That would be descrimination. BUT, if thats the path you want to take, get started NOW while your young! They're more likely to employ pilots in their low 20's than older, because A) you have your whole career ahead of you and it makes better financial sense for them, and B) it shows that you...

    Afordable biplane

The second part. But you'd be pushing your luck trying to get clearance into YSSY anyway. FWIW, you can't get your PPL in an ultralight. Its a different licence. The hours you get in an ultralight count towards it though (and cost a lot less to obtain). It makes the financial burden of...

    Afordable biplane

Yes to the hours, yes with a but to the destinations. You can fly in controlled airspace if you are certified to do it, and the aircraft must have a transponder.

    Afordable biplane

All aircraft must be registered in oz. Whether its under RAAus, LSA or VH (CASA) is reliant on the specifications of the aircraft, and what you want to do with it. You can ONLY do aerobatics under VH rego. The closest you get to aerobatics under the other systems is steep turns (60 deg bank)...

    Zenith CH-701 Plans Unused

Just my 2c, and I probably wouldn't have done this either, but it may have been smart to ask for the serial number on the plans and contact Zenith to verify them? Its funny how good hindsight can be.. Like I said, if it were me I would've gone "Cheap plans?!? CREDIT CARD!!!" in the heat of...

    Afordable biplane

On a side note, since you are in Australia.. If you want to do aerobatics, you MUST register your aircraft under the VH system, which can be very costly on the maintenance side of things as far as I know. These are things you have to weigh up if cost is an issue.

    Afordable biplane

Check out http://www.fisherflying.com/. Their range of biplanes looks pretty cool IMO. They even have an 80% scale Tigermoth. I don't know if they're capable of aerobatics though. Either that, or keep on the lookout for a restorable Tigermoth or similar. I heard a rumour that one was purchased...

    CH 701 build log

Personally I prefer a good balance of text/images. I'm happy to read big paragraphs, but if theres a description of a particular process and no photo to go with it, I find it hard to follow.. Your page looks good so far though!

    CH 750 WOW!!!

Ahha.. I see your point. I personally don't have to take that sort of thing into consideration as much, because at 78kg (171.6lb), I'm 1kg heavier than what the authorities in this country consider a "standard human".

    CH 750 WOW!!!

I'm sold on the Corvair option if I can find a way of getting one to Australia. I read through all the pages over at www.flycorvair.com, and I like the idea of an engine that performs as good, if not better than an O-200 continental, at a fraction of the cost. They say that if you have a little...

    Ballistic Parachutes

Was I correct in reading somewhere that the textbook spin recovery for a Cirrus SR-22 is to blow the chute? Scary thought if the chute won't open on a spinning aircraft... I hope I've got my info wrong.

    CH 750 WOW!!!

Man! I'd love to take a factory tour! Unfortunately, the return airfares from Australia to the US would pretty much equal the cost of the materials in the entire airframe! The best I'll be able to do is find a local 701 owner. Sounds like you had a lot of fun though! Good luck with your build!

    Boundary Layer Control

I toyed with the idea of using golf ball style dimples on the forward part of RC glider fuselages, to try to force better airflow... Never actually tried it though so I don't know if it works or not. I personally think you can build a composite aircraft TOO smooth. So much so that the airflow...

    Tail wheel to trike

I don't see why the tail would need to be enlarged... The main gear needs to be far enough behind the CG for the aircraft not to fall over backwards, but not so far that you can't rotate for takeoff. Then you will need to engineer the fuselage structure to suit this new undercarriage...

    CH 750 WOW!!!

The only reason I ask is that it can take some of the larger, more traditionally GA engine choices (Con O-200, Lyc O-235, etc) and I've never heard of these engine types being approved in ultralight registered aircraft in Australia... I've been umming and ahhing about importing a Corvair to...

    CH 750 WOW!!!

I just had a thought... will the CH-750 qualify for LSA or RAAus registration?
