    Raptor NG Discussion

@jedi I do not have that kind of money...but, you never know who else is following this forum! @TarDevil I didn't mean that area in particular...anything, really. If anyone has time, I'd be very curious to know what else is out there that's more viable.

    Raptor NG Discussion

@Victor Bravo That's a good idea, a no-BS technical evaluation of the new ideas out there. Two issues: 1) Only the people who can drop enough cash to bankroll projects really matter, whether or not the rest of us are informed isn't important. Sad, but true. And, if you have that kind of $$...

    Raptor NG Discussion

@cheapracer thank you very much for that detailed breakdown! I really enjoyed reading your response, thank you, it's much more clear to me now why he failed and why he chose to give up rather than keep trying. Thanks also to others for the responses! Really interesting to read everyone's thoughts.

    Raptor NG Discussion

To clarify, I've watched most everything he's posted and written, but again I've no experience with engines or building aircraft, so the answers to the questions above are not clear to me. If he gave specs on the prototype other than climb-out speeds I missed that, and I'm not finding the answer...

So...if he had done it with one of Continental's diesel engines instead of homebuilding his own, would that have made the project viable?

    Raptor NG Discussion

@TarDevil I did follow the Raptor threads, but I'm not technical enough to understand most of what he talks about. But OK, I think you are saying it was just more complicated than he made it out to be and he shouldn't have tried it on his own. @bmcj I know...but I'm still personally curious to...

    Raptor NG Discussion

MODERATOR NOTE: Moved the following posts (up to #136) here from another nascent "Raptor" thread. We really don't need another thread on that one airplane. We have two going at the moment. Since nschmandt's questions seem closest to the topic of this thread, I've moved them here and closed off...

    Article about General Aviation

Why are people saying the FAA doesn't certify drones? From their website: Package Delivery by Drone (Part 135) Looks like they have two active and 6 more under consideration...

    Article about General Aviation

@Victor Bravo It's a very good point. There are lots of logistical and financial/liability costs with having a pilot in the plane, but as I think you're aware, the cost of automating the plane will outweigh the costs of having pilots to fly them. And yes, if you were buying C182s to haul cargo...

    Article about General Aviation

Thanks so much everyone for the lively discussion!! Sorry for falling behind on the responses, got caught up with work stuff unexpectedly. First, I think we need some clarification here. For the types of mission, let's say there's short-range (<100 miles), mid-range (100-400 miles) and...

    Article about General Aviation

@rv7charlie Thank you! There were a few hits there I hadn't seen before! @BBerson Thank you very much! I definitely had not heard of them! That's pretty neat, automated rotorcraft, and interesting they found a military application.

    Article about General Aviation

@Victor Bravo Thank you, those are all great points! You've summarized perfectly why these aircraft should be hauling cargo until they have enough hours to be established as credibly safe.

    Article about General Aviation

@BJC thanks for your input @rv7charlie great, thank you for reading! You mentioned: "companies operate smaller GA aircraft as charters", do you know if there are any smaller companies that specialize in smaller aircraft for cargo purposes? Or is there a way to find them? Yeah, I've read about...

    Article about General Aviation

Hi everyone! I used to be on this forum a lot when I had a Comanche, but sold it and decided an experimental was out of my budget. I've popped on to read a little bit and see what people are up to, and I certainly do miss flying. I'm in a part-time MBA program now, and a writer for our student...

    Flight school leasebacks as investments

Thanks so much everyone! I definitely appreciate the healthy dose of skepticism here. One question, though, a lot of people are saying that if this was as good as it sounds, the flight schools would just buy their own planes and lease those. Do the flight schools actually have access to the...

    Flight school leasebacks as investments

Yes, I factored in the overhaul costs. $20K a year should be an overestimate for all the expenses that will be incurred, even as a rental aircraft. Yes, I know the risks of the aviation world all too well. But, the numbers do add up, and at least I'd like to know why it wouldn't work. Thanks, Nick

    Flight school leasebacks as investments

Hey guys! Been a while since I posted here (though I have been reading)! Posting again to get some advice about buying a plane and then leasing it to a flight school as an investment. It seems that the right plane in the right flight school could really do well financially. For example, a...

    Looking for first-time RC/automated flier

@BBerson I just did an AMA search, thank you so much for suggesting that, there are a ton in the area. I've inquired about a few, I'll probably wait until spring to actually sign up (as I assume most of them are hibernating). Thanks again for telling me about that! That looks like a nice AMA...

    Looking for first-time RC/automated flier

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone! Lil Scrapper, that noob tube is perfect, I think I'm definitely going to give that a try, for a first build. I'll probably try playing with an ARF as well, I'll have to do a little more research on those. Some people mentioned that I would need...

    Looking for first-time RC/automated flier

Hey guys! I'm in a bit of withdrawl after selling my Comanche, and looking to start up something new, could people recommend a good first-time DIY RC aircraft? Either that you buy as a kit, or just the plans to make one. I have already flown a few out-of-the box drones, and I'm looking for...
