Aerodynamics is so complicated compared to other disciplines

I doubt that, in a highly swept wing, a winglet does anything significant to increase the effective span of the wing because the spillover of air occurs far behind the flow field of the majority of the wing span. That, and a highly swept wing would seem to have span wise flow (momentum) (top...

Aviation Attorney recommendations?dealing in reissuing a lapsed license.

I think an attorney would recommend that his client refrain from discussing anything that previously caused, perhaps, undue attention. Paraphrasing someone: there are no exculpatory statements, only incriminating ones. He may also recommend not modifing a written statement once posted, as that...

How to start a gliding club?

None of my ab-initio instructors were bad, but the process of learniing to fly in the local soaring club was ridiculously bad. YMWV. The ~$2500 I spent on club membership, flying, plus time doing club duties and driving to and from the field, was a complete waste for me. Determined, I went to...

How to start a gliding club?

A club is a club, with all its attendant attributes. I would rather fly through a commercial winch launch operation. If I lived near a ridge, I'd hire someone to do the electrical & electronic design work on a winch (using an appropriate large commercial electrical motor), and set up an...

    6'7"

Angle of my knees which are under pressure working the rudder, and the seat only supports a relatively small area of my bottom because my knees are elevated. Much worse is the rear seat in a Chipmunk. C172, the yoke is interfered by legs.

    6'7"

I'm 6' 6 7/8", 195 lbs (no shoes), and can tolerate being in a Champ for about 90 minutes. Entering, and leaving, takes some effort, but the structure has convenient hand holds for the front seat occupant. Wilga?

IF I had more time and money to build.

Electric Bob Pond Racer, or turboprop. I'd like a Grob 120TP too, though it isn't likely to be in kit form.

    Any ornithologists here?

If birds didn't need tails, birds wouldn't have tails. There is a cost to having tails, and apparently that cost has a positive return on investment. I have spent some considerable time observing my hummingbird friends over the last four years. They have been kind enough to show off for me...

    Developer wanted: 13.5m HP-24

If I could convince (major nearby employer) to put me under subcontract in your area. Unfortunately, I'm also in the middle of a house purchase. Practically speaking, after much ruminating, your proposal is closest to what I can have, and would find valuable, in an aircraft. Honestly hoping...

Practical aircraft for everyday use -concept

Going back to my dilemma of a weekly commute to/from a proposed pied-à-terre on the Gulf of Mexico: in the end, I decided the only practical solution would be to have a self driving car, that provided the confidence to let me sleep during the trip. I think that is also the OP's best option.

Practical aircraft for everyday use -concept

I will disagree with that position. I have variously made my home in SoCal (oil-water problems after rain), SF-BA (fog), Philadelphia (unbelievable rain | white out conditions, feet of snow), DC (hurricanes, unbelievable rain | white out conditions, feet of snow), Boston (unbelievable rain |...

Practical aircraft for everyday use -concept

I had a similar interest. The interest was to reduce a 7.5 hour drive, one way, from Gulf of Mexico to work. There is one guy in the office who has done this drive every weekend for years (or did at least, might still do) because his wife lives in a condo on the coast (he exceeds the speed...

    Instrument Rating and Sport Pilot

My certificate says PRIVATE PILOT on the front, and GLIDER on the back (under ratings). Noticeably, under limitations, it doesn't say VFR (or anything else). 61.3(e)(4) says airship pilots don't need an instrument rating if operating in IFR, just a commercial rating. I just don't...

Yet, that doesn't seem congruent with: 61.57(c)(6) Recent flight experience: Pilot in command.
