    Possibly lightweight, direct-drive - high-power four-stroke?

Since this is now an 'open project' I think it would be appropriate to remove this topic from the 'Project Logs' and make a discussion about it accessible to everyone. In theory this should work.

    inverting rudder pedals

Is it wise to invert rudder direction? As I prefer a steerable nose-wheel even on a part103, the normal setup for rudder commands has a weight and complexity penalty compared to a setup with inverted rudder direction. OK, the pilot can adapt these inverted rudder pedals but if you fly with...

    Engine Wright Flyer

Hi all, For educational purpose, I'm recreating the Wright Flyer engine in CAD. So, all who like to use these for any reason thinkable, send me a PM and mention the file format you like to receive. The drawings are not complete yet but are extracted from views and photo's I could findon the...

Gasket holes – easy and fast

Maybe this subject is covered before but as I had a camera nearby, here we go... Last photo shows what tools you need. The steel balls are from various bearings and as you see, a few are fit to cut all dimensions. The iron shape needs to be bolted onto the engine so I need a paper gasket to...

To exited to keep my mouth shut.

Santa brings me 20 original magazines of war-planes from 1943 and 1944. I have no idea what to expect, I only saw 3 covers. One with the Fieseler FI156, one with an Italian red cross water-plane and one with a Focke-Wulf FW 189. I can't wait to see more....and wish you all a merry...

Are these Rotax 582 crank-shaft parts available

Hello, Are these Rotax 582 crank-shaft parts available as separated items? The ones you see on the pictures are damaged. If needed I will machined them myself but the originals have an already proven reliability.

Poll 2 - HBA- engine (paperwork level)

A second poll, this time a few more options. In witch power band would you welcome a new direct drive aircraft engine?

    Poll - HBA-engine. (Paperwork level)

Only two choices. If you would have a choice between two engines with the same HP output and the same weight, one with a reduction drive or one without - witch one would you choose?

Mike Sandlin Goat4 - free extra 3D views for builders

Hi Goat4 builders, For those who are actually considering building the goat4, I have redrawn the glider in a 3D environment. So, if you have troubles finding out how parts fit together just post the drawing number and I will add a 3D drawing and/or exploded view to help you guy's out...

    2-stroke piston pins

Hi, I'm searching for the general dimensions of Rotax 2-stroke piston/rod connection pins. (277 – 447 – 503 – 582 ) Do they share the same diameter? Are rods and pistons interchangeable? I want to oversize (bigger bore) my engines and it would be nice to know witch Rotax piston fits witch...

    CAD program?

I noticed an increased need of CAD drawings all over our community. Would it not be wise to choose an affordable functional program we all can use? It could make interaction between homebuilders a lot easier. I use Autodesk on the job but I'm not really a fan of their “commercial approach”...

    Flying start war-bird replica?

Sometimes I need to draw what I have in mind and today was such a day. It's a spin-off from an other thread and maybe someone like to pick up the idea. It's a seat/prop/engine mount assembly witch goal is also to protect the pilot. Core could be the hard foam sold by Vosschemie and skin could be...

Cowling / prop support advice wanted.

I'm playing with the idea of using the cowling as a support for the propeller. It would work if build out of cast aluminium but weight rules out that solution. A few layers of carbon, honeycomb, and again a few layers of carbon is a possible solution. I can use an autoclave nearby. Any thoughts?

    Fuselage-engine-propeller...or...Fuselage-propeller-engine

All the air-planes I know of are using engine mounts to fix the engine on the fuselage. After that, they fix the propeller on the engine. Why don't they fix the propeller on the fuselage and fix the engine on the propeller? Gyroscopic propeller loads are countered by the fuselage and the...

Designing/building of my 4-stroke (direct-drive) engine to replace the 277/477 Rotax

I believe this builders log is a more appropriate place to post my findings and progress. Those who are interested how I got at this point can read my thread in the auto-conversion section. “Thanks STIHL... about 2-stroke techniques in a 4 stroke engine.” Main goal is to build 4-stroke in...

    Throttle body for industrial engine.

If I can help someone with this throttle body just ask. Was designed and build for a Honda GX620. Comes with RVS water-cutted pipes and parts – never welded together so it probably could be adjusted for any 2 cyl. V-engine.

Thanks STIHL... about 2-stroke techniques in a 4 stroke engine.

A few years back, I started rather enthusiastic my search on a 4-stroke +40 HP engine to replace my 503 Rotax. Every engine I came across had his own inconveniences for my 'application'. Industrial engines are simply not build to power part103 air-planes , nor are re-driven bike or auto...

    What does '@80%' cruise means?

On specs charts of aircrafts we find always max. speed and cruise speed. What does this really means? Is it 80% of engine rev? - 80% of engine power? - 80% of throttle settings? - 80% of fuel consumption? – 80% of thrust?
