Mertens in Germany make this parachute with a separate harness and container. 100kg (220lb) pilots; 325km/h (202 mp/h; 175 kts) Vmax and 100m (328ft) min altitude.

    Pilot emergency parachute survey

Softies come in a 180 lb. or 240 lb. version. For our gliding club I had ordered the 240 lb "Mini" for most pilots (2 of the 3 "Micro" for the smaller/slimmer pilots are 180 lb versions; one micro is a 240 lb version and the pack is a bit tighter). The containers have different colours to tell...

    Pilot emergency parachute survey

I am the parachute rigger in our glider club (based in Switzerland). We have one PEP per glider seat Our tow pilots don't wear PEPs In our Super Dimona TMG we don't wear a PEP, there is no room and you would need a model with a separate harness and container to make it work - I would wear one...

    Rocket-powered ultralight (self-launching glider)?

What about steam power? Apparently the Swiss "Flying Troops" (as they were called at the time) used high-pressure steam take-off boosters (i don't know if for the Vampires, Venoms, Hunters or Mirages). Recipe: Fill a pressure vessel with water, heat using current producing high pressure steam...

    New glider design

You should also send the link to the admin of www.streckenflug.at for publication. In Q14 you ask for 2 replies but the form only accepts 1 choice. In Q30 I'm missing my favorite class: 18m.

The new project aircraft VP 12. Ukraine

Congratulations from Switzerland! She is beautiful! The "Halo" above the pilots' heads reminds me of the safety feature of the current Formula One cars. Is this a rollover protection?

    Rutan Ski-gull

Anybody knows what's going on? The last bit of info that I can find is Trevor Budge's video "SkiGull Hull Modifications Winter 18/19" posted in June 2019. Apparently they added a step.

    Whatever became of ......

Too bad. I was hoping that what they wrote in the FAQs on their website would come true some time. Seems they were considering offering a kit of a side by side version (it says "This could happen as early as 2017").

Kind of an update from January 2019: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/antennafilms/looking-up-way-up-the-burt-rutan-story/posts/2392164 Can it be seen at Oshkosh this summer?

Question (from a noob non-pilot): What's up with all the ...

One more consideration to favour a T-tail: If you outland in high grass a wheat field the elevator of a T-tail stays where you put it; whereas the elevators of a cross tail might get sheared off. Not sure how V-tails did in field landings.

OpenTrainer: New crowd-sourced open-source two-seat primary training sailplane

I remember reading an interview with an engineer of one of the German sailplane manufacturers said that developing a "new kind of ASK 21" was not worth it. If you do the whole design work (including a crash safe cockpit) you can as well apply modern aerodynamics on the outside and add a new wing...

OpenTrainer: New crowd-sourced open-source two-seat primary training sailplane

Hi all I don’t know about the financial situation of clubs in the US. But from a European perspective it’s the costs of the tug plane that are the most significant factor on the way to the license. From this perspective developing a new tug plane that’s cheap top operate might be a goal that is...
