    The AFB (Amazing FleaBike)

Thanks guys. 8% - 15% is what I was after. And yes, knowing that I already have the info but being able to reference it is a bit frustrating. But that's what HBA is for... Cheers, Duncan

Sanity check: What is the accepted optimum placement (longitudinally) of the main gear in a tricycle undercarriage (ie relative to CG). Raymer covers this, but my books are in storage. Regards, Duncan

Bugger bugger bugger! My carefully stored fuselage, together with a few dozen boxes of workshop stuff has been stored in a friend's hangar. So far so good. This morning I received a Whatsapp message with photos of the storage - and it's a disaster. It seems that dogs/cats got into the hangar...

Hi folks. Just a brief note to let those of you who've been following my Fleabike project that the project has been put on hold for six months. Mainly because of required overseas travel, but then also relocation to the Sunshine Coast, and some health issues mean that the workshop is going...

    Model airplane spars

Notice the 5mm cutout in the trailing edge of the ribs. This is to accommodate the 5mm glass fibre rods I plan to bond in place.

    Model airplane spars

Of course, this method of wing construction can only work on something like a Flea, whose wing consists of discrete panels, with hinges attaching the outer panels. In this way, each separate panel has a 1200mm span. Very simple to machine, and very easy to put together. All that's required in...

    Model airplane spars

Hi. I was surprised at how large the margin of safety was. However, for a number of unrelated reasons, I changed my mind about favoring single-piece ribs over discrete spar webs, and moved to the more traditional three-piece ribs and continuous spar webs. There are SO MANY things to consider...

Merry Christmas! I've just woken up to a low, overcast morning, with the promise of heavy rains (but it's still warm - 33 deg). My wife, Glenda, is in Stellenbosch South Africa visiting her mom who is now extremely frail, and they are having an extended family lunch at one of the...

Question: Why have you not connected the windshield pillars to the back plane? It would add frame rigidity.

    21st century Volksplane?

Everyone seems to be reinventing the (old) wheel by dredging up designs from yesteryear - I don't understand the nostalgia trip so many are into on this forum. What about this: a wooden Affordaplane. It certainly meets the "I-could-build-that" pub test, and looks pretty sexy also.

Mmmm The ones I have are 4mm thick cast stainless steel. They LOOK the same as the ones I linked to though. My mistake.

Hi. I still can't find the spreadsheet I mentioned, or the box the hinges arrived in - but these are them - sourced locally this time. What I like about them is their tight tolerances - so no sloppiness. Also, they are cast - so no danger of the pressed pieces loosening over time.
