    B&S 49-series (810cm3/49ci) for aircraft use - TiPi's Q&A thread

Just thinking that if no gain from 1/2 throttle then something is restricting flow, some how the air is restricted to what can flow at half throttle so pipe diameter?

Crashes in the News - Thread

He did a nice job the narrator. The fire does not seem to me to be coming from the engine's power section (the forward part of the nacelle) it appears to me to be coming from the accessory section. The "blower" housing is made of magnesium and burns at over 6,000 degrees Fahrenheit. My first in...

Crashes in the News - Thread

All of the DC-4's I flew on or new of were originally Military aircraft of varying designations depending on the branch of the service they were from but most commonly C-54. The power section of the aircraft engine nacelles have fire detection but no fire protection, the accessory section has...

    B&S 49-series (810cm3/49ci) for aircraft use - TiPi's Q&A thread

If all the cam timing etc. checks out and because from 1/2 throttle to full throttle no/little change then the throttle above 1/2 is not the air restriction? The size of the manifold and carburetor to the Y is to dinky? Could try separate carburetor to each cylinder but it has another set of...

How to get diameter wooden propeller for gasoline engine 7hp = 208cc

I fear that despite the fact the center of gravity will be to far forward, that the aircraft was designed by a genius it still may stagger into the air barely able to be controlled. Then it will eventually crash and the pilot still alive but severely maimed will writhe in agony whilst being...

How to get diameter wooden propeller for gasoline engine 7hp = 208cc

How will you have enough authority to rotate for take-off with that much mass that far forward? Why not two engines at the proper center of gravity?

    Electrical System Clarification

On preflight we checked the battery's. It would start with 19v maybe, kinda', it was "iffy". The rule was 21v for departure from home base, if it was near 21v I informed the Captain most often we would get fresh battery's. No one wants to try and start an engine some god knows where place in...

    Electrical System Clarification

When you consider (1) flying time [actual according to your bladder]. (2) battery time of a good sized battery that weighs less than extra wiring to support solenoids/switches/rectifiers/etc., and additionally a generator/alternator with associated belts and pulleys. And considering todays...

How to get diameter wooden propeller for gasoline engine 7hp = 208cc

Yes there are craft that fly on less than 7hp. The Cri Cri was not so designed.

How to get diameter wooden propeller for gasoline engine 7hp = 208cc

I doubt that a 7hp two stroke would spin a 18 pitch propeller much above idle. It would require the full 7hp be available at around 3,000RPM and I am guessing that, that amount of power is not available until a much higher RPM with a 208cc engine. It just won't do it. You need a propeller...

    Time to move on...

The point is you can fly without a medical in a glider or motor glider if you have not been denied a medical. You get denied you are toasted.

    Time to move on...

Glad you made it. If you have never been denied a medical you can self certify for a glider (basically if you can maintain a drivers license). Many gliders and motor gliders are aerobatic at least to some degree.
