    Afford-a-plane

I just thought it was funny, the price. I don't know if there is discussion on here about this plane. It is kit form, real 103 legal and very well proven. There is a new version that is wide open called the sky dock. Very easy in and out and slightly covered from wind up the pants. I have been...

    Update From Afghanistan

Vortilon, You're so right. My father has some pics of Okinawa, after the war, '49-'52. They are small but very clear. I hope to get them blown up 6x8. They show mountains of wrecked military vehicles ready for loading onto rail cars. I'm fortunate to talk to and listen to my fathers stories...

    Latex paint on fabric covering

I found extreme adhesion outdoor latex paint. Ugly colors though. green and brown. Might be great for a first coat though. then yellow on top of that and call it done. I guess I'll look allot more. I have a horizontal and vertical stabilizer, and a rudder. I can cover these and use as testing...

    Latex paint on fabric covering

According to this guy....... Latex in any color will provide UV protection. Seems like they did their homework using a spectrometer.... Check the PDF at the bottom. UV barrier Latex Paint, using Latex paint as a UV barrier on aircraft, latex paints as UV barrier for ultralight aircraft fabric.

    Latex paint on fabric covering

I'm looking for 1 year usage. My Koala is inside the hanger when not flying. Is UV protection more for the fabric or the structure? The EZ, Quickie, and cozy are aluminum structures aren't they?

    Latex paint on fabric covering

That's along the lines I'm thinking. One good Latex paint for base coat and uv protection. One more for full seal of material and Final color coat. Maybe two coats would be enough?

    Latex paint on fabric covering

Thanks Dan, did you use just 3 coats? It seems two are sufficient to fill the weave. then a top coat of color choice? I have to be honest, I'm looking at cost alone on this. I may do the poly fiber if the coat on there peels clean. Dacron+ poly is too much for me right now.

    Latex paint on fabric covering

Old post but.... Fisher Flying Products just posted Latex as an acceptable way of covering. I need to recover my wings the least expensive way. What do you all think of it on an all wood wing? Whomever covered my FP202 did a poor job and I'm uncertain what was used. It's peeling off and leaving...

    Whan a friend goes down...

Two weeks ago I flew with a friend in a delta wing trike. Yesterday afternoon he went down. I'm very saddened now. He just got his sport pilot license. He's been flying delta wing for years. Details are sketchy. He is in fair condition now. broken jaw and punctured lung/broken ribs. Passenger...

    Stits repair (grrr....)

UH! I have acetone. the poly guy specified lacquer thinner. hmm. Okay my acetone also removed the paint and left the silver. I guess it's a full reocver with poly. Maybe I can get away from the cub yellow now. L4? Or pitts red/white?

    Stits repair (grrr....)

This is strange. The mek took the top paint right off but didn't touch the silver beneath it. The lacquer thinner softened the paint and made it gummy but didn't really remove any. Any ideas what this covering might be? I will call poly back on monday. I found 100% MEK at Home...

    Stits repair (grrr....)

The tech Gregg said old school dope finish will wrinkle up. Latex then? The small section I cut out is cracking and peeling. The silver is staying on the back of the paint and leaving clear white fabric. I can easily suck air through the fabric but not where there is still paint attached...

    Stits repair (grrr....)

Poly fiber tech say's wipe three times with mek on a rag. Wipe three time with laquer thinner. Mek will remove poly better. thinner will remove others better. Looks like I can do the repair with poly as long as I remove all the old stuff first. I will post results. Thank you, I'm glad I...

    Stits repair (grrr....)

Thanks Mstull, quick reply. I'll get some poly tak and poly tone. I thought The poly tak was for attaching the fiber to the structure be it wood or metal. This is a big area so I need to do it right. I had a link where the manual was in PDF. Now I can't find it. I'll check with...

    Stits repair (grrr....)

I'm about to patch my wing. All the advice I got from local builders were the same... use polybrush to glue the patch/shrink it/ poly brush the entire patch. I don't have poly tak. or poly spray. This is a 1 sq ft hole in the left rear root corner on the top. There's allot of talk about...
