    VW engine hp

I agree 100% with the airframe idea. I believe he was directing his comment towards these airframe. Though ..he never really stated that, though I feel he was, but I may have assumed that since I'm building a CH701. It really is unfortunate that he has passed, more for his family's sake. But we...

    Revmaster 2300 cam specs

Does anyone know the full cam specs for a Revmaster 2300... I assume ( maybe incorrectly ?) that the 2100 and the 200 are similar, so they would be help full too. I'm doing a Dyno 2000 simulation for comparison with other VWs. Thanks Kevin

    VW cooling

Topaz, I belive I clearly stated the RPM at some point earlier. If I did not I am sorry. But I have been speaking of these RPMs. In addition, even at the lower 3000ish RPM that you speak of, the manifold pressure CAN be too high...more of that pesky heat that you have to get rid of. Why do ou...

    VW cooling

You guys are being influenced by emotion and misinterpretation. We are talking about sustained power here, for more then an hour. The engine has to run 60-75 % for hours and hours during its life time. The VW head was not designed for this, if you start getting up in the redrive rpm range its...

    VW cooling

Of course the VW can output more then 36hp, but when maintained at higher outputs it creates a lot of heat. If you are flying a slippery fast airplane, you may well get away with this. But if it a draggy airframe flying relatively slow you will not. The fat fin mod mentioned was used on a CH701...

    Making Aluminum Ribs

The 701 flaperon ribs for example, are pretty small. The flat blank gets a hole drilled where you cut the slot for the bend take up. Then it is bent over the form block. The larger ribs have groves formed into the form block and you pound the AL into it, no fluting pliers needed. To bend a wing...

Which of the LSA designs is most builder friendly?

The CH750 for sure and I believe the CH650 are now match hole designs. Meaning almost every hole is drilled you just cleco the parts together and then drill to final size, deburr, prime or not as you feel necessary and rivet together. Guys are completing them in under a year.

Did you ever find the DVD? I would be interested in that also. I have the builders manual already but it is a very early one.

    Is Redution Drive Essential ?

You do not need a redrive depending on your airframe. The Sonex and the Sonerai (spelling?) both do fine on direct drive VWs. A lot of single seat ones do too. But if you are building a slow draggy airframe have two seats or just building it heavy, you may want to consider the redrive. Bob...

    VW cooling

Wayne Clagg, Has posted pics on the AirVW and Vwconversions Yahoo groups with temp info as well as a video. He has more on the Zenith bulders site but that info will cost you at least a set of plans to see;) Kevin

    Most homebuilts are WAAAY overbuilt??

Just for reference, the CH701 is covered in .016 uses .025 and .016 ribs. The wing spar web is .025 with .093 angle hard rived top and bottom, The spar doubler at strut attach point is .032. All is 6061T6. And this was designed by a real aerospace engineer who did structural analysis on the...

    Zenith CH-701

The 750 is a very nice design, if I had not started my 701 I would have built the 750. But since I'm building from plans the ease of assembly does not factor in to in very much. The 750 kit has almost all pre-drilled holes. Clean it, prime it, cleco it together and rivet away. The 701 kit has...

    Unknown Engine...

I'd guess 4A084 too. It was used as a power unit, but it has a big following in some experimental aircraft circles. There is a yahoo group just putting for those in airplanes, you may want to post it there. Good Luck Kevin

    VW cooling

Bob, said that the duraflux brazing was what made him announce it. Tig welding Al is outside the capability's of most home builders. If cooling proves out the Jab 2200 has a real competitor in build it your self form. Also read his blog google and yahoo know the way there. Kevin

    VW cooling

If anyone is interested, over at the airvw and vw_conversions yahoo sites, these has been a pretty cool ;) new mod. It involves brazing or welding fin extensions onto the head. I'm not getting into a brazing vs tig discussion, so don't try. But they are having very good results. It is being...
