    New rotorcraft concepts

In my opinion it wouldn't fly at all unless the pilot was extraordinarily light. By the numbers it should work ok, but it doesn't put out nearly as much power as the Rotax 503 and the 503 is barely adequate. The Hirth engine as the Rotax wants a longer prop to get better thrust output. The B-8...

EZ, you should check out the Ikenga gyro. https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/gyro-2000-ikenga-530z/nasm_A19940171000

    New rotorcraft concepts

The main reason there isn't many gyros with the extreme forward swept mast is that the mast when angled back ~9 degrees is basically under a pure tension load during flight. You get some bending from the motor thrust but not too bad. With my gyro I have ~320 pounds of thrust as a bend load, and...

    New rotorcraft concepts

That last video is Jim Eich. Looks like he's testing a new design/build. he hit something out on the El Mirage playa.

    New rotorcraft concepts

Look up JK-3 Juan for videos of the tractor gyro. I'm not sure I'd be looking at a Tesla battery pack as opposed to an RC LiPo pouch type cell system both for cost, power to weight, and current delivery. Generally, a pusher gyro outperformes a tractor gyro. The balance might shift a bit with...

I gotta give you credit EZbuildwing, That last tractor gyro picture G-BXXR i've never seen before. I'm sure you know that the Nano tractor is flying now.

Why battery-powered aircraft will never have significant range

The first electrically powered, human carrying flying machine flew in 1884..... A Battery electric dirigible.

    methyl methacrylate (MMA)

I've used MMA for bonding wood to aluminum and aluminum to aluminum. Great stuff !! My biggest problem is that I haven't found one with a working time of more than 10-15 minutes. I've never seen anywhere near 45 minutes.

    How Would You ‘Race’ Ultralights?

honestly I don't think a paintball would damage a fabric covering. if it did, It was too degraded to fly anyway. No idea about staining.

    How Would You ‘Race’ Ultralights?

I would be concerned a paintball could blow up my Powerfin prop.

    Hornet max engine size.....why ???

I agree. Especially the part about attempting to get more speed from a gyro. 100 knots isn't too difficult, but much beyond that starts a cascade of changes.

    Hornet max engine size.....why ???

Can you point me to where these 90 degree pitch ups have been reported Jedi? I've never heard of it. Also, most, if not all explanations of bunt in my experience involve gyros that have the thrustline significantly above the vertical center of gravity in conjunction with a missing or...

How about Ultralight laser tag? like this?

    Hornet max engine size.....why ???

Good luck with finishing Hornet 001 ! I know of a guy who used a Rotax 618 on a Gyrobee and it was the biggest engine used at that point. The 670 is currently being used on several gyros today , but it would be the first on a Hornet to the best of my knowledge. If you finish, it would have a...

Isn't that the tractor gyro built by Murrey Barker some time ago?

    New rotorcraft concepts

I've suggested to Nano to try the Swissauto 250 4 stroke on their gyro. It is a rather expensive engine. For the price of 2 of them on a bigger gyro you could get a Rotax 912 ULS and have money and more power to spare.

Has anyone built a Gyrobee lately?

I'm always putting some wacky idea on my gyro. last year it was an autopilot which worked OK, and was fun to fly with a little electronic stick, but ultimately not very useful and used a huge amount of battery power. I might revisit it someday. This year I put a small 8.2 SF wing on my axle...

Verner 3VL now has an aluminum crankcase

I see the weight at 92 pounds on the scale, but there is a 5 KG tare that appears on there too which is another 11 pounds... Not sure what to believe... is it 92 or 103? Beautiful little engine though !!

    Actual Weights

Ethan, I want to build a wing on my axle which is a piece of 2x2 aluminum tubing. I have great flexibility of shape, size, airfoil, etc. But ive never built a wing before, so simple and idiot proof as well as lightness are paramount. The plan is for a chord of about 15 inches and a flat bottom...
