Now I've gone and done it....

PT, Curious if you're making headway on your Fairchild? In the 90's there were two in our EAA chapter, one with the 200 Ranger and another with the Warner Radial. I think the airframe is a work of art. I remember passing the Warner (up close) in my Tri Pacer coming back from a flyout one...

    Commercial License Required?

First of all, sorry for posting on an old thread. A common misconception is once you get you commercial ticket you can go out and fly for profit. Fact is if you're beholden to the public on flying for profit, it'll almost always end up in the Part 135 bucket. That's a completely different...

    Planning which plans for plane

No argument from me on the amount of time we all probably fly alone... I do alot for the same reasons. Fact is you can fly alone in a two or four place too. Its all personal preference, and there's no right or wrong answer....just hate to see him realize half way through a build that he...

    Planning which plans for plane

I, like others would advise getting your certificate first, then work on narrowing down your build choice as you fly beyond lessons. It doesn't need to be a lot....just some to get a feel for what suits you. Years ago someone wise told me to build if you like building, but don't try to build...

    How much t-88 epoxy?

Dude, When I had a wood project, I found myself using T88 for about every household maintenance problem that came up. Seems like I even filled a hole in something, then drilled and tapped it for a machine screw. The wife hated it because I kept gluing every broken thing she brought...

    ADSB Out ???

I realize I'm posting to a really old thread, but this far down the line many are still thinking about waiting to see if the market will produce WAAS capable es add ons for mode c transponders that will comply with the "out" requirement. Many have already gone to Stratus 2 units on iPads with...

    Waco Model W Aristocraft

I remember this airplane being listed in the homebuilt section of a magazine based aircraft guide in 1978. I still have the copy I bought back then. I puzzled over it and never heard about it again until now.

    Now that we have experience....

Worst airplane I ever flew was a Traumahawk. They were new at the time and I was curious. After renting them a few hours, I walked away knowing I'd never get in another one.....and haven't.

Orginal Panels: How far would you go to save

Depends. I had a Tri Pacer that was a high quality restoration, but I converted the pilots side panel to a modern 6 pack. I took extreme care to make it tasteful and finished it in black crinkle paint to give it a classic look. So....it wasn't a totally new panel, and it wasn't a cut up...

    MERFI 2014???

We're getting pounded by thunderstorms along the front that went stationary along the Ohio River. I doubt I'll be headed for MERFI since the front is fcst to train storms along the front all day tomorrow. Starting to think about Zanesville at the end of Sept.

POLL: Homebuilding does not belong in hangars - I'VE COMMENTED

This one is a no brainer for me since I work in a state aviation department. We advocate for any aeronautical use on public use federally obligated airports. Our airports district hasn't been asked or has tried to restrict homebuilding on any airports in our state that I know of. We'd fight...

Non approved parts on normal category airplanes.

I did a web search for ARC ASTM Part 23 and followed a link to the document that had the primary non commercial section in it. Having read it before, I was under the impression it was coming into effect in January 2015, and if so my plan was to do the mod I want to do after that category came...

Non approved parts on normal category airplanes.

The airplane is a '59 model Comanche. I'm trying to legally install cabin air boxes to the lower firewall, and engine cowl chin scoops (NACA) to feed air to them with scat hoses. Except for the NACA replacement for the original chin scoops this was the stock fresh air addition for the models...
