    Perfect Rivets

I'm curious what the classic and long-revered sheet metal textbooks and instructional guides have to say about this. The books written between the middle of WW2 and the 1960's - the time period where virtually all aircraft manufacturers and aerospace workforce training programs were focused...

    Inherent, quiet?

Sorry OT Maybe some of you guys have not considered the flap system wear or the issues with the flap tracks and hinges. When you walk up to an older Cessna and you see all those repairs, stop-drills, and cracks at the trailing edges of the flaps (and aftermarket "bulb" reinforcements), why do...

    Perfect Rivets

Speaking as a sheet metal amateur with much lower experience compared to many, for me riveting is almost entirely dependent on practice and "feel". Yes, the basics must be classroom/mentor taught and understood, and yes the actual rivet guns and bucking bars and drills and reamers and chip...

Well what do you think the big secret is?

    Perfect Rivets

Making sure the bucking bar is 100% perpendicular to the rivet is the key. And any extra length in the rivet is a guarantee of the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Sold TEAM Minimax 1100R Serial #1470P plans with manual on plans

I saw your Barnstormers ad looking for MiniMax and Ritz plans Jan, and was about to send you a notice about preidlinger's plans, but you already got 'em before I could sound the alarm :) Are you related by any chance to Bill S. (same family name) who used to own a small airstrip called "Bohunk"...

    Inherent, quiet?

Nothing in the original post said anything about the FAA, or aircraft certification. P-34 wants to keep flying, and to do so he may have to switch over to an experimental if that turns out to be the path of least resistance. But, if they had a really huge problem getting a zero-restriction, no...

    Inherent, quiet?

The famous "Swiss muffler" really works to reduce the noise, and can be added to almost any airplane.

    Formula-I?

Question for TiPi, billski, and the other V-twin engine people: How large of a realistic risk is there of breaking crankshafts because of TV or prop loads with the kind of use we're discussing for a race environment??? Is this kind of failure still a likely threat if we limit the RPM to X, and...

    Formula-I?

That's why we're considering things like a "claiming race", which makes it far less attractive for someone to invest a large sum into an engine. Keeping the prize money more evenly distributed (if and when there is any prize money to discuss) will also reduce the justification to spend heavily...

    Sandlin Gliders: Builds, mods, flights

The DINGO idea was based on the Kolb ultralight layout, having nothing to do with Mike Sandlin's approach. Being a card-carrying XC glider snob (we were called 'glass-holes' back in the day), I would have wanted to have less drag and more performance. Mike's concept of the rolling launch...

    DA11?

Sure, why not? It's a little bigger and clunkier than ideal, but we're trying to get people to start with something. Anybody who looks at the V-tail mounting weldment drawing on the DA-5 plans and is not trembling with fear on how to fabricate and weld it straight... is a lot braver than me!

    Formula-I?

In a PM conversation with JDub this morning, I was embarrassed to realize that the earlier Watson Windwagon and original Hummel Bird had a much thinner airfoil than the big fat STOL wing I saw on the Ultracruiser my friend flew. The smaller Windwagon actually does appear to be another perfectly...

    DA11?

The white and blue DA-5 was hangared at Apple Valley CA airport last time I flew in there, maybe 6-7 years ago. It had dust on it, but it was intact, assembled, and looked flyable. A cosmetically cleaned up DA-5 for the 80HP Rotax 912 or the 2 cylinder Yamaha/Skytrax...... :)

    As Seen On BARNSTORMERS

That MiniMax is not a bad deal at all! Anyone who might be interested in it, one of my aviation friends who is occasionally on this forum also occasionally travels between SoCal and NC, and has moved several airplanes, kits, components, etc. safely.
