    Stall Warning

I would be interested to know what type of homebuilt this is. Dave

    Mr Fisher?

Got to visit Ed last fall. Great guy and what a shop but a lot to keep up with. Glad to hear the leg is on the mend. Best, Dave

Airframe as Return Leg of Electrical Circuits

It makes more sense to me to add accessory grounds only WHEN a problem is found rather than add the weight, cost, and complexity or individual grounding wires for each component and THEN test for problems as suggested above. That is proving the point and is a contradiction. This is where...

    Chromoly tube sizing

I don't think the OP was asking about what various specs, names, and sizes of 4130 are available. Have you found all the "proprietary" names confusing in attempts to purchase or identify 4130? I have seen only clearly marked old mil spec or newer 4130 marked tubing. Easy to source. If not...

RV 3 Previously Flying, Complete Aircraft

Okay I’ll stay off topic. Wow. That’s a bargain. My guy spends a lot of time with me. $100 would be minimum wage at best. Removing seats, checking rails. Compression check and testing mufflers on occasion alone take hours. Cleaning the airplane is on the list but few do it. My guy does or let’s...

RV 3 Previously Flying, Complete Aircraft

Clarification made. Not to take this off topic too far and dwell. My point was a repair certificate is a draw to many who want to build an airplane.

Yeah. Just meant you can’t do and sign off your own inspections. Dave

RV 3 Previously Flying, Complete Aircraft

I always liked the earlier, smaller RVs. Obviously, one cannot be sure about build quality but some questions come to mind. Remember these aren't criticisms of Skypilot - just observations as a potential buyer. 65TT? Barely the needed time flown off for airworthiness then either stored or...

    Chromoly tube sizing

Patrick Kevin, What do you think of your first post? Lol. Seriously not all threads do that here. Back on topic - you are quite ambitious. Without knowing your background, skill set, or education level it’s tough to know how to answer your question in an encouraging way. For a first post your...

    Chromoly tube sizing

I will reference this thread as to why I so often dislike forums. One guy stays on topic and others try to take him down. The rest of the thread is an argument distracting from any actual on topic advice given. Honestly guys, it's like correcting someone's grammar during a serious...

Steps to scratch build a VW

Steps to scratch build a VW

Lots of great tips but the theoretical “I would...” additions water it down. Just surprised we already have over 500 comments. I’ll stay in here but the VW engine page here has lots of hidden tricks. T-intakes vs. castings, etc. that pops and a few others have contributed. Like you guys said...

Steps to scratch build a VW

103, You hit on the slippery slope in your last post. One can’t simply adjust V-speeds by using a higher HP engine build to compensate for weight which was never in the original design. That is, not without changing the designer’s wing loading and many of the flight characteristics. What scares...

Steps to scratch build a VW

Has anyone purchased the Great Planes VW Type 1 assembly guide? I have books for auto builds but wondering if there is good info in there about "front drive" conversions - like the shims we've been talking about? So much info on the web and in auto books, I wonder if $35 is worth it. Dave

Steps to scratch build a VW

Hearing these numbers, I kinda wonder what guys are building VW conversions for. Meaning, what aircraft are they putting them in? From what I’ve seen most aircraft with VW engines were designed specifically for the VW engine and therefore were not expected to have more than about 60 hp. I’m all...

Steps to scratch build a VW

I’m really not sure. I’ve not heard of anyone doing that or reading a spec. The Ford Model A is done like that. In fact, the cam bore is what one indexes from to line bore the mains.

There is a seal inboard of the shims.
