    Parts Wanted Stewert S51 PLANS

Aesthetically I'd put it between a Loelhe/War and a Stewart S-51. For some reason there's a sharp break of the curve about midway on the upper cowling, the vertical stab and rudder are a little off and the turtledeck behind the cockpit is flatter than the original and the angle of the fuselage...

I just watched a walk though of the Titan factory on Youtube: they have one Stewart S-51 there, which is used for mock ups. Search on: Titan Aircraft Factory Tour

What Skills to Fly the Stewart S-51 Mustang?

Well I can't afford a half million bucks for an airplane. So I'm not likely to seriously think of buying one. But it's the required skill set I'm discussing.

What Skills to Fly the Stewart S-51 Mustang?

Ok I found this on a web page. They are NOT Official Kit plans. They were put together by Owen Smith. Read the Caveat. http://www.seas.ucla.edu/~osmith/s51/construction.html Click on "I agree" at the bottom and you'll be taken to a web page with compressed files. Intro, Wing, Fuselage...

.....and what that suggests to me is that if one were to contemplate buying one already built, the Pre-Buy would have to be FAR more thorough than one you'd do for your standard RV.

If you read the construction notes I linked above you'll see that there's a lot left for you to figure out when building this airplane.

What Skills to Fly the Stewart S-51 Mustang?

I have a complex endorsement as well as a high power endorsement. I've been checked out and have a number of hours in a Piper Arrow. I should have mentioned those. Took my last BFR in the Arrow. S-51: Approach speed is 95 kts Touchdown at 80 When I started out in my RV-8 I used those speeds...

What Skills to Fly the Stewart S-51 Mustang?

Hello all. There's some recent interest in plans/kits for the Stewart S-51 in the Parts Wanted forum. Talk expanded to data ownership and other things which led to links to promotion videos as to how well it flies. It's claimed to be an "honest airplane". But I have read things that say the...

    Parts Wanted Stewert S51 PLANS

He sure was. Here I, a total stranger, just appeared at his shop one day and he took the time to talk with me and show me the plane. I used to have a photo of him holding the spinner up to the wood fuselage but I can no longer find it. I wish I still had it. I'd be interested in a discussion...

Actually that's not true. When I lived in Florida I met Stewart in his shop and saw his wood P-51. It looked beautiful. Somewhere along the line it got changed to metal.

Why battery-powered aircraft will never have significant range

Just because mankind can solve problems faster doesn't mean it can solve EVERY problem faster. Or even at all.

Why battery-powered aircraft will never have significant range

For about the 5 billionth time: "On the way" has proved to be foundation-less and meaningless. So many "game changing" advancements in electric vehicles have been "On the way" for decades. Talk to us when they are HERE.

Pros and Cons on Composites vs Aluminum

It would seem to me that perhaps composites have a place in kits if you design an airplane whose main structural loads are handled by internal components and the composites are used to build large (half-fuselage?) skins. That way, faults in the composite structure aren't life threatening, and...

I.C.E. is dead, Long Live I.C.E.

The moment I read the title of this thread: I.C.E. is dead, Long Live I.C.E. I knew it was thoroughly ignorable. As has been stated countless times, we've heard that for decades. Right alongside the claims that some massive progress or discovery has just been made which makes solar or wind...
