    Need some math help.

Ok, I think I have it now. I can be a little slow, at times. 😊 Thank you, BJC.

    Need some math help.

My question is why are we using these values. Are we using a right angle that is opposite the reference point, rather than the adjacent right angle?

Mc on page 4 uses the 2.4” Me on page five uses the 4”

    Need some math help.

I have not circled the wrong 4”. These values do not belong to any of the free body sections, but are instead derived. My question is why? I am trying to understand this process. Why are we creating 2 right triangles inside ABE and CGD and using the length of their shared legs as values in the...

    Need some math help.

I am studying Peery’s Aircraft Structures and am stuck on pages 4 and 5. It’s not the math I have a problem with(although I’ve been out of high school for quite some time now), but rather, I am not understanding why the length of these legs (4” and 2.4”, circled in red) were calculated and then...

    Aircraft Ash

I just did some rough calculations for the build I’m planning. It’s the Spencer Air Car. Roughly 130 bd ft, or 11 Cubic feet. At current prices, spruce from AS&S would cost about $9000.00. Wooden Aviation has ash which would cost about $1500.00. Problem is it would add about 154lbs. The Air Car...

    Why Spruce ?

Are you referring to the runout, or the grain along the long axis? Wouldn’t they be roughly the same on the long axis? I don’t know if there is such a thing as shearing along or between grain lines, but it would seem to me that if so, the more parallel the end grain is in relation to the applied...

    Why Spruce ?

It seems to me that rift sawn boards would have less runout than the quarter sawn boards, and so would be superior to quarter sawn. What am I missing?

    PSRU for Electric Aircraft

Yes, I was thinking about that. I think that is quite doable.

    PSRU for Electric Aircraft

One, to isolate the motor from the loads imparted by the propeller during maneuvering, another the reduce the motor rpm to a range suitable for the propeller.

    PSRU for Electric Aircraft

I am wondering what issues/advantages a Psru used with an electric motor might have vs one used with an ice? I have a project that I’d like to use a belt drive unit on. Would be looking at 250kw Peale and 125kw continuous power.

Mounting props directly to axial flux motor?

The plan would be to use 2 of the emrax 348 motors for flight, and 2 stacked together as generators, possibly behind an LS. I might also make it possible to swap genset for battery packs for different missions. I would most likely have relatively small batteries in the nacelles as well, for...

Mounting props directly to axial flux motor?

400kw is the LV version, at 4000rpm. The MV at 2400rpm is 250kw peak, 100-125kw continuous, depending on cooling. I’m planning a scaled OV-10 Bronco series-hybrid with twin motors powered by genset in rear of fuselage. I’d like to keep the appearance as close to original as I can, and it’s...

Mounting props directly to axial flux motor?

I’d like to know if these type motors, in general, are stout enough to mount prop/extension directly to them? Here is a motor I am considering for my project. https://emrax.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/EMRAX_348_datasheet_A00.pdf

    Single-seat ultralight puddlejumper: the "Carbonmax"

I think Hot Wings is right. There seems to be a large contingent of stol aircraft owners that do a lot of group flying, and quite a bit of the time it seems that they are flying one up. So perhaps a small, inexpensive single place would do well.
