    Load testing for unknown wing.

I think that is the route I should go. I can provide them a drawing but I'll have to do it by hand or in CAD. Would love your recommendations.

    Load testing for unknown wing.

The wing construction is very similar to the original. Both use 3/4" spruce boards which are epoxied together and staggered in the same manner. Both use 1/16" mahogany plywood ribs with 1/4"spruce strips and 1/8" Okoume plywood skins. My initial thought was to make a CAD file and hand it to a...

    Load testing for unknown wing.

This would be limit load. It's suppose to go up to 10gs in flight at a gross weight of 1150 lbs. So the wing should hold 11500lbs in both directions continuously.

    Load testing for unknown wing.

I fully constructed a wooden wing for my DR-107 project and intend on load testing this since it will be expected do 10g positive and negative. The problem I have is the wing I constructed is not the original design but a derivative; larger wing area and longer as well as the internal geometry...

GP-5 or Polen Special similar designs.

I really like that BJC suggested the Brokaw Bullet. It really is exactly what I was looking for. I hear that plans are rare so I'm going to start looking around. Does anyone have any leads as to where I could find the Brokaw Bullet plans?

GP-5 or Polen Special similar designs.

Thanks for the input Rick. I'll add that to the list. I was hoping to find something that has retract gear but not a requirement.

GP-5 or Polen Special similar designs.

I'm looking to build a racer-type aircraft like the GP-5 or the Polen Special but can't find any plans for something like them. Specifically it must have centerline seating, neighborhood of 300mph vne, and perform well in cruse around 15,000 msl. What do you guys know of out there? Thanks!

    Blueprints for P-40 Warhawk

Awesome advice! I'm going through all the resources you guys listed. I'm getting some inspiration for the guys over at Titan. The way the T-51 is constructed using tubular steel frame makes a lot of sense to me.

    Blueprints for P-40 Warhawk

Hello, I'm thinking of designing a scale replica for the P40 Warhawk and I'm trying to locate reliable, readable blueprints. So far I've found (p40warhawk.com) which has some free prints though most are unreadable. Plans.aero has blueprints for sale but I have never used their services. I want...

    Wing Shape and Flight Characteristics

I'm following Dans book so I am only logically estimating what the qualities need to be in order to achieve the aircraft I want at this time. Once I have the basic design I'll go back to revise many times to get it right. This is a journey of education and I get a personal aircraft at the end...

    Wing Shape and Flight Characteristics

128 sq ft did seem high when I saw it but decided just to work with it and see where it takes me. This is after all for my own personal education. I planned on using tubular steel for fuselage because I am familiar with it and it is tried and true. Advanced composites for the wings, empennage...

    Wing Shape and Flight Characteristics

So aside from the tip stall characteristics the wetted area shape can have a significant effect on the weight so much so that designers move the leading/trailing edge around to move the C.G.

    Wing Shape and Flight Characteristics

I’ve been going through Dan Raymer’s book on aircraft design for homebuilders; it's great! Now I’m at the point to design my wing and this is the first place I’ve gotten stuck. My aircraft mission is to be competitive in the aerobatic world, capable of all the advanced maneuvers normal and...

Heat and Humidity level for Construction?

Thanks guys. I also read somewhere you should glue the components in a temperature and humidity level which you expect would be the highest you would ever encounter in the aircraft lifespan.

Heat and Humidity level for Construction?

Hello, First time builder here. I'm getting ready to set up my shop and my question is how concerned should I be when gluing and letting my parts sit out in an environment that is prone to getting in the 100s in the summer and only ever gets to about 50% humidity? My work space in an old shed...

    Help Reading Wing Schematics

On the vertical axis is reads 11.319 for the longest part of the rib. If this is in inches it would be 11 and 319/1000 inches. This is confusing to me because I cant understand why it would be written in such a way that I have to round up or down to the closest measurement. For example, for...

    Help Reading Wing Schematics

Hello there. I purchased a set of DR-109 plans a few months back. I've never seen real schematics before until now and am confused about the standardization of them. I'm looking at the dimensions for the wing ribs and I cant tell if the measurements are in inches or centimeters. Everything is...
