Is it possible for carbs on a Rotax 503 to form ice on the ground?

Yes IMHO . Been there done that myself.....on takeoff in April, temps about 50.....Dewey morning....lost enough rpm to bring me down. Was very surprised. I was always told "it couldn't happen".

    Redneck Bike Drawing

    I don't know....The s4 is much more squared off.

Concept Design - Please poke holes

I thought you were sunk when I read "comfortable and roomy" in the description of an airplane.....

    Redneck Bike Drawing

Are there anti - drag wires of some sort on the wing struts? The shape is nice....I would make the tail surfaces a bit larger, though.

    HBA personalities

Good list. Add the "supplier" or..... "self serving" category and it is pretty complete. What about non-old time builders.... experienced with at least one complete, flying aircraft...... And the true Scratch-builders ( which my include the Scroungers group)

Need help designing an A10 Warthog...

Why not modify a Hummelbird? Build the ducts out of foam-- totally cosmetic. The landing gear is mounted on the wings already and they have the right shape..... and you say you have built one, so it should be a piece of cake. Design a new tail and you're done.

    Prefered wood glue

My bottles of T-88 say West Systems on them. Can't load a picture from my phone, though. *edit* My brain is transposing the labels of my bottles sitting on the shelf!! T-88 IS System 3, not West System...... man, I am getting old.

    Wooden prop plans

I have both books mentioned. Well worth the money.

    Prefered wood glue

T-88 IS a West System epoxy, haha. It is the best glue out there. Amazing stuff. A tip: although once dry, it is fuel proof, it will wash right off your hands with white vinegar for easy cleanup.

    HBA member project updates

You guys are all way out of my league. No composites or retracting gear or auto pilots....or fancy alumunum birds in my little shop.... I have a 40' tractor trailer converted to a shop and am building my 3rd scratch built Fisher design -- a Horizon 1. The wings are complete and all control...

    RTFM-Aero SkyBike discussion

Sounds like subconsciously, you have no real intention of getting airborne, haha. Just buy a used ultralight and fly it.

    Air-Bike plans - all aluminum?

Airbike Ultralight Aircraft | Light Aircraft DB & Sales The Ison Air bike was steel and wood. Some one on here proposed using an aluminum taik. Use the search feature.

Is the raven (Kitfox and avid clone) a good plane?

Build a plane that has company support. Build a Fisher Horizon 1. Plenty of planes flying, certified by the PFA in the UK. A rock solid plane. I estimate mine will be flying for about $7000 with a Geo/Suzuki engine. Full sized plans. Company support. Why screw around with something you...

    Double Eagle Fuselage Brazed

To the OP--- There are many great designs out there with great track records you can build for little money. Fisher Flying Products, Minimax, Roger Manns designs. I built a Fisher 303 and had it flying from scratch in 6 months for about $3000 total. I spent about $1200 on the complete painted...

    Double Eagle Fuselage Brazed

If hardware store epoxy was used on the ribs -- I would forget the ribs. I think the wings are just clones of a Minimax wing, aren't they? Those plans are free if you register. Wayne Ison was a nice guy and a good designer. Those planes are easy to build and fun to fly.

Anyone actually use wood motor mount?

well.....wood doesn't thermally expand... Picture a "L" bracket on it's side in each corner. The bottom shorter part of the "L" against the front mounting point with motor mount bolt through it. The longer part of the "L" against the side of the fuselage with a couple bushed bolts through the...

Anyone actually use wood motor mount?

As far as contacting the manufacturer.....this is a Fisher Flying Products design. The company is nothing of what it used to be. It was just sold again for the....4th...5th time? The current owner has never built a wood airplane.....let alone a Fisher design. The owner before that....just...

Anyone actually use wood motor mount?

I have been following your build for some time....I don't remember what your engine mounting points look like. What were you planning on hanging on the nose?

Anyone actually use wood motor mount?

That is a good outlook, thanks. I won't add much in weight-- maybe a lb. and it would add more than a lb. of confidence, haha.

Anyone actually use wood motor mount?

I have to ask.... Anyone actually ever bolt a 200 lb engine to the wood motor mount blocks described in their plans? I am building a Fisher H1 and am going to be installing a Geo/redrive and I have built the wood mounting points per the plans -- and I must say, I did so VERY carefully. As I...
