A history of VW Beetles in Antarctica

Good to see Beetle lovers on HBA. Thhis is my 2000 Beetle ( 2 gen ). I maintain this like a historic vehicle. Put roughly 50 miles on it ( no more ) each month. Garage kept. Presently at 129 k miles. I bought it used , but in very good condition, before tha pandemic when it had about 126 k...

    What airplanes have you flown?

Any astronauts on this board ? Would love to see / read about those having flown Gemini, Apollo etc, though they are not airplanes. The space shuttle?? That certainly qualifies as an airplane.

    Theory how lift is produced

Happened to see this. IN BRIEF On a strictly mathematical level, engineers know how to design planes that will stay aloft. But equations don't explain why aerodynamic lift occurs. There are two competing theories that illuminate the forces and factors of lift. Both are incomplete...

    Air Force Humor

From the web : One day, the rain was pouring like crazy and a big puddle formed in front of a local pub just outside the Navy base. An old Marine Sergeant was standing near the edge of the puddle with his fishing line in a puddle. When a Navy fighter pilot saw this, he decided to approach the...

    Any opinions on best color?

For low wing airplanes, a very bright or white color on wing-top could cause too much glare when you look sideways, especially on a sunny day. Should reducing glare be a consideration for color choice?

    Increasing Angle of Incidence

Thanks all, for sharing your thoughts. A consideration is that since the thrust line is not being changed, the fuselage should continue to travel the same path as before. In other words, if the fuselage is allowed to re-position so that the wings get the same old angle of incidence, then...

    Increasing Angle of Incidence

This is more of a hypothetical question, but I am interested to learn. The positive angle of incidence on the MiniMax airplane's wings is made possible by rigging the bottom the rear spar 1 inch lower than the bottom of the front spar. Obviously we need to keep the fuselage horizontal before...

    Kawasaki 340 Voltage reg output

This is an old thread. I happened to see it today. I too have a kawasaki 340 that I purchased new from JBird. I have installed a lithium battery. My battery is used only for starting the engine. No instruments need battery power. When fully charged in storage, voltage reads 14.2 v. After...

Can Dihedral wing Angle negate the need for Ailerons

I was under the impression that two different factors are involved here. The dihedral merely gives roll stability in linear flight. It corrects a wing drop by trying to get wings back to level when no change in direction is intended by the pilot. So dihedral is very essential for planes without...

K340 - one cylinder runs rich and other lean

Just wanted to give an update. Turns out the carb was pointing slightly towards the rear cylinder. Actually it was probably just a couple degrees to the rear ( as seen from the top ). Not too obvious unless one looks carefully. Adjusted the carb boot so the main body of the carb was facing the...

K340 - one cylinder runs rich and other lean

Thanks for all the suggestions. I love this forum. There is a wealth of knowledge out here, and a genuine willingness to share that knowledge. This is always my first stop when I have questions. I will try out the various suggestions and see what works, and give a feedback.

Got it. I will try it out and post an update if it gets resolved. Thanks

K340 - one cylinder runs rich and other lean

Good to know that. I had checked and made sure that the carb is perfectly vertical. I will now try tilting it either way and see how that works out. Thanks

K340 - one cylinder runs rich and other lean

I have given a couple Youtube links - one showing the full plane, and the other the engine before installation. I dont have a close up picture right now of the engine on the plane.

K340 - one cylinder runs rich and other lean

The engine is new from J Bird. It has only about 15 hours, mostly break in, taxiing practice and a couple hops on the runway, Not flown on the pattern. The carb boot is not damaged or torn.

K340 - one cylinder runs rich and other lean

Hello all, My Kawasaki 340 ( on a MiniMax ) runs off a Mikuni carb. I noticed the rear cylinder is running consistently richer than the front. This is shown by the front spark plug running very clean, and the rear plug fouled up and oily. I also verified this by moving the CHT probe between...

    Alternatives to fabric cement

Thanks for all suggestions. I didn't know Ekobond was available in a 4 oz packing at Stewart's systems. But with shipping, it comes to around 27.00 for 4 oz. I found 3M Fastbond 1 qt, on Amazon (with free shipping for prime members) for 36.95. the only issue is that this is of neutral color. I...
