    Boeing - Design Issues...

A friend was the maintenance manager for a major airline operating out of Atlanta airport. He was responsible for the “turn around” maintenance, not major overhauls. He said that a continuing problem was getting the correct wheel and tire assembly installed, on one of two Boeing aircraft, when...

    Perfect Rivets

Since you seem to want to preach to and disagree with those here with significant experience (not me), I’ll point out that a “big bucking bar” is ambiguous; what matters is the mass of the bucking bar. BJC

    Boeing - Design Issues...

Even the airplanes are rebelling against Boeing’s management. It is time, as others have suggested, for the Board of Directors to clean house. BJC

    Puzzling out my electrical system

Dana, Not a suggested diagnosis; more of an “I feel your pain …” I’ve had two starter system problems. One was a starter contactor that started increasing resistance. The other was a PC680 that I ruined by using a Battery Tender charger. Prior discussion on that in an old thread. BJC

New Ownership At Hartzell Raised Prices Within One Month

The Senior VP once gave me the assignment of writing the press release about his firing a VP for non-performance. The Senior told me the he was tired of hearing from the employees that executives were not held accountable, and he wanted the release to be clear about the reason for the...

    Puzzling out my electrical system

FWIW, it is possible to prop a Lycoming O-360 engine with the pinion engaged. It is just harder to pull, but not as difficult as a high CR with a three blade prop. BJC

New Ownership At Hartzell Raised Prices Within One Month

Yup, and all the excess weight of Raptor no longer is an issue because it’s having an anti-gravity drive installed. BJC

Companies that offer homebuilt liability/not flying, no authorized pilots insurance?

I wonder if you could insure it as something other than an airplane up until the time that you get an airworthiness certificate. Not suggesting that you mislead the insurer, but that the insurer recognize that it isn't really an airplane. Thatone BJC

    Olin Kane's VP-1

Thanks, that photo shows that the engine is in the normal position. I guess that the enclosed cowling accentuates the low thrust line. The engine position likely is there to minimize pitch changes with power, but to my eye, it would look better higher up. Would love to see a resurgence of VP's...

    Olin Kane's VP-1

Nice VP. Two questions: What kind of bird is that on the propeller? Is the engine mounted lower than normal? BJC

    Boeing - Design Issues...

Years ago, I removed a major computer manufacturer from the approved bidders’ list because their bids were consistently twice the winning bid prices. After about 6 months, with another RFQ in the works, I got a call from the president of the company. He wanted to come and make a presentation to...

    The Fields Luxury fly-in Resort

That is what a Google maps search indicates, but I’m not certain that it is correct. The web site indicates that the development is on the Cumberland Plateau near Fall Creek Falls. That would not be in the valley. BJC

    The Fields Luxury fly-in Resort

I lived in Signal Mountain years ago, and frequently visited the Sequatchie Valley. Loved the area. Had thoughts about buying some land there, developing a grass runway on it, and ultimately retiring there. BJC

    Formula-I?

Formation takeoff on a runway too narrow for a three ship Vee, so I, in my A152, tookoff behind a C120. At about 50 ft AGL, I slid left to form the Vee. The wake turbulence from the 120 was powerful enough that full aileron was required to keep the wings semi level. Don’t need to do that again...

EAA - For better or worse

As I recall, back then, when people registered, they told the guy collecting their money (me, among others) what they flew or trailered in. But that was a few years ago. BJC
