UL First Flight .....Not Enough Rudder Authority or Just Bad Gear

I looks to me like your departure from the runway was due to the fact that you did not nail the tail wheel to the ground by holding the stick all the way back as soon as the tail touched the runway. The video shows the elevator in the neutral position during the off-runway tour. Hope this...

    Rivetting BD-4C floor

The plans for the original BD-4 (I have built one) called for countersunk Avex rivets to be inserted from the bottom, with the skin dimpled upward, and the bottom surface of the channel countersunk from the bottom to match the skin dimples. John

    Oratex Covering System

Frank, I too am a recent convert to Oratex fabric. I posted this to the "Tube and Fabric" thread a couple of days ago, and felt it might be helpful here as well. Last year I finished construction of a new Ultralight aircraft named Bodacious, and I used Oratex UL-600 fabric to cover the entire...

I did not use finish tapes due to the light wing loading and low speed of my plane. I simply overlapped the fabric 2" all around. They sell pinked-edge finishing tape, in widths from 17-mm to 150-mm, in 25-meter rolls. The tape is made from the same colored material, but with a heavy coat...

David, Based on measuring the left-over fabric (poor planning on my part caused me to order more than I actually needed,) I used 21-meters of 1.8 meter wide Cub Yellow fabric, 3-meters of 1.8 meter wide Fokker Red fabric, and 2-Liters of Oratex Dispersion hotmelt adhesive. The cost of the...

Dana, I checked with the manufacturer before applying the fabric. They said with my wing loading, maximum airspeed, and the with of the rib capstrips, that rib stitching was not required. I can't answer your question related to foam ribs. I would suggest you build a sample and test it. John

Fuel and oil clean easily with windex. I'm not sure the manufacturer would approve windex, but it works well and is cheap.

Sorry to be so late in replying to this question, but today is the first time I have seen this thread. Last year I finished construction of a new Ultralight aircraft named Bodacious, and I used Oratex UL-600 fabric to cover the entire plane. My only previous experience with fabric covering is...

    ford v6's

Mark; At the point of failure, the mild steel becomes very scaley, brittle, and flakey, and eventually a hole is blown through the tubing. The wrapping material is JC Whitney part # 71ZX1304R, ~ $38. www.jcwhitney.com. Application instructions come with the material. I have not...

    ford v6's

Exhaust wrap Mark; My engine is a 3.8L supercharged V6 from a 90 Ford T-Bird, so many of the systems are different than yours. I can however address the exhaust wrap based on personal experience. My first exhaust manifold was made from mild steel and wrapped with the same material shown...
