    I guess I'm not so wrong after all about this stuff yay... Its not just the electrical drain from the alternator but when your engines spinning at say 4000rpm your spinning the alternator something like 10-15,000 rpm. 3 or 4 horsepower here and there add up on any engine, more so on a smaller one

    I don't see how metal could be cheaper when you've got to pay someone else to do it. Maybe if you were going to go into production for something it would defiantly be cheaper but for a one off home project I think composite is the way to go

    Here's a 2D side view sketch I did with paint. If you try to bend it at one spot the stress is distributed to the other areas rather than just push on one side and pull on the other. But like Topaz mentioned it's 3D so the stress is distributed in at least 3 directions

    Yea just like any time you would lay cloth over something small it forms a mound. If you mash out a square around the edge of the mound it forms a pyramid shape. Think if you had a flat sheet of cloth then glue a bunch of pyramids on it. Then glue a 3rd sheet of cloth over the top of the pyramids.

    I had the same idea with the foam core..... Then I thought about alllll those little triangles I would need to cut out lol ... But then again, if you could make a mold to inject mold rather than cutting out every single triangle. That might be the way to go.. but a lot of wasted time and money...

    I would think it would be more ridged because of the triangles being that it is one of the strongest shapes because in order for a triangle to fail, one side has to fail. You look at all sorts of things like bridges (metal ones anyway) or radio towers, They all use triangles... I don't know...
