New Ownership At Hartzell Raised Prices Within One Month

If you're an Arcline investor, you gotta be pretty close to thinking its time pass this sure thing onto the next bigger fool. It'll be interesting to see where it all goes from here.

EAA - For better or worse

For just a second, I was afraid this might be a Rick-Roll. But, I had to see it anyway. Thanks for posting!

    Puzzling out my electrical system

You've got to determine whether you want results in Newtonian physics or Quantum. Size matters!

    Puzzling out my electrical system

Or just use a 4-lead miliohmeter when you "ohm it out". Aircraft ground from your starter ground lug has to be 2.5 miliohms or less. And, you need to see how much over the specified resistance for gauge and length each segment of your battery circuit is. Those values are available in the...

    Roller blade wheels as tailwheels

I believe those Cassutts you see at the races replace their tail wheels often enough that they buy them in quantity. I use a 4" X 1.5" solid tailwheel on the Sonerai and replace it about once a year. My TW set up is full swivel with compression springs. It works great.

    Tail wheel for original cast

The 4" "Home Builder Special" tailwheel for the 3/8" axle bolt (4 X 1.5 X 3/8) on Aircraft Spruce is the correct tailwheel for the cast TW assembly. You need a common AN Bolt and a washer stack up to snug the axle and fork just enough that the wheel turns on the axle (and not the bolt) without...

Good-News Study On Airport Lead Exposure Kept Under Wraps

If you look back at the Reid-Hillview lead study, AOPA (among others) pointed out how flawed the conclusion from that study was. The NIMBYS are going to find a way, its only a matter of time. Spectactular youtube videos of aircraft death spiraling into occupied homes aren't helping.

    Thoughts/experiences on financing an airplane

Its really easy to get in over your head when buying an airplane. Even the best pre-buy isn't going to prepare you for that AD/NPRM that no one (officially anyway) knows about. And, if you have my luck, this can result in an unexpected bill for thousands of dollars that will make your first...

New Ownership At Hartzell Raised Prices Within One Month

May not be any less expensive. But, at this point spite might just be a factor. ('Hmm...., where'd I put that Whirlwind brochure...')

    Horrible news from Vans Aircraft

I suspect Van's initial reaction to the whole LCP saga was very conservative and in keeping Van's reputation as arguably the leading EAB kit designer/manufacturer. And, this latest discussion about on-going testing is a forthright effort to reassure their customers that the parts they have are...

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

Depends on whether you're talking to the aircrew or the maintenance chief. A lot of aircrew (pilot and enlisted) mistakenly think the "Jesus Nut" is just gonna come off. I suspect there's way more cases of total mast separation from mast-bumping, than there are of the Jesus Nut coming off in...

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

That's why they call it a "Jesus Nut". The chief is yelling "Jesus Christ all mighty! Just get the Power Dyne!"

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

^^^ Yep. This! 65 year old financial planning/analysis and portfolio management student here. I got so creeped out by the "financial planners" I met with I decided to do it myself. Besides, I've been pretty much doing it myself anyway. Its all pretty much self paced. But, I'm studying...

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

"under the supervision of an I/A" is exactly how its legal. I've been working as a side gig "under the supervision..." for years. Even had the feds come out and snoop around. All perfectly legal.

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

I'm 65. I wouldn't do it. But, thats a long story about how I hate some of the Bubbas that work for the FAA. I still get calls to install and repair avionics from A&Ps who "don't want to do that kind of work".

    Flying Pictures; Post Yours

This was one of my favorite ones from a couple of years ago. Typical soggy winter day. Lowland fog just barely burns off by afternoon at the home drome. But lingers in the up-river valleys into the evening. Get'n vertical in the Sonerai! 🤣

I guess he has his reasons for operating the way he does. But, I've managed to source all the parts I needed without bothering him any further. And, I've learned enough in the process that I feel I probably won't have to bother him in the future.

    How Do You Stay Proficient?

Here's a good challenge for pilot proficiency: Pilot Exercise Program | PilotWorkshops Also, something similar came up in another forum. My contribution was how I try a practice engine out landing from 5 miles lateral distance and 5,000' above the airport elevation. Here's a great book on...
