    Canard CG

Thank you for the replies so far! I brought up the AOA in my first post due to situations that came to mind that would cause the stall. I really want to design a canard but have some concerns with CG. Normal attitudes don't concern me as much but I want to make sure I am not working on a...

    Canard CG

I know that this subject has been talked about a lot but I can't find the one answer I want. If the CG is located in the diagram, how would the aircraft react in a full nose high stall? In level flight I can see the canard stalling first causing the nose to drop and pulling out of the stall...

    Methanol

I'll check those out! Yes, you start with methanol and add sodium hydroxide. I have used this mixture in some plastics just fine but it has broke down some rubbers and other seals so I am worried about using resins.

    Methanol

I know that this is a bit off topic of airplanes but I am looking for a resin that can stand up to methanol. I would like to build a composite tank that can be used to mix sodium methoxide. Thoughts?

    Commercial use of experimental aircraft

To my knowledge, you cannot use experimental aircraft in a commercial purpose such as rentals or with paid passengers so how do companies such as Scaled Composites/Virgin get away with SS2/WK2? Are they getting a type certification on the aircraft?

    Design Layout Input

I have notice that while messing with it in Xplane. It does not want to trim out on level flight, even once the speed stabilizes. The other issue is on takeoff. As soon as full power is applied, it takes weight off of the front gear and I lose ground steering. I can fit the main spar under...

    Design Layout Input

Here is a layout I am working with and wanted to get some input on the design. It is a roomy tandem two seater and I am planning on using either a LS1 or inline 4 depending on the cruise speed I decide to go with. The CG is about 2 feet in front of the leading edge of the main wing. The...

    Overlap of HS and wing.

I went back to a higher A/R HS and added the strakes. I also cleaned up the temporary fuselage.

    Overlap of HS and wing.

That would give me what I am looking for. I will try that when I get back to my other office later today.

    Overlap of HS and wing.

What are thoughts about having the adjustable front canard? I was thinking of having an alpha range of about 0-5 and using a lead screw and servo motor to make adjustments. I have been working on an idea for a flight computer that would track the empty CG and the pilot could enter the fuel and...

    Overlap of HS and wing.

I may raise the prop up more but I will still be in the wake of the HS and part of the wing. What affects would be noticed by this? I really love the pusher setup and I am trying to avoid a twin engine setup.

    Overlap of HS and wing.

The low AR wasn't planned and could be raised. The original HS started just past the TE of the main wing when I first started. The CG can vary a lot when the setup I have now. I was planning on having side by side seating for two. Right the engine I am looking at is in the 300lbs range but...

    Overlap of HS and wing.

I'll have more details tomorrow but really the choice was more for the looks of it. Right now it is a thicker airfoil creating the down force needed. I might go with an asymmetrical airfoil and use the canard to generate the lift needed to balance out the CG.

    Overlap of HS and wing.

I wanted to get some thoughts on the horizontal stabilizer from the design above. The CG is close to the midpoint of the two middle black dots. The front canard is fixed but I am thinking about having it electrically adjustable to allow for a wider CG limit range. My main concern is the...

    Tandem CG

I have switched back to doing a tandem wing design and I’m having an issue laying out the major sections to get the CG where I want it. Right now it is a pusher with the engine mounted aft of the rear wing(think single engine Scaled Proteus). This project will be a two seater with the cabin...

    Rutan Ski-gull

Re: Rutan outa clue ? I watched this some time ago and my view of him changed. I still look up to him but it was a sad day when he bashed bio-fuels.

    Twin Tails

After looking at that aircraft and thinking about it, wouldn't moving the HS to more of a T tail and possibly moving them aft more help with that?
  18. Docskyhawk

    Twin Tails

Would extending the wings past the booms help with some of that? I could bring them in closer and extend the wings to 26+ feet.

    Twin Tails

What does everyone think about the twin tail setup of spaceship two? I was thinking about a similar two seat setup(low altitude) but with a wing span closer to 24' and a much shorter fuselage. Would there be an issue with the VSs at the wing tips in terms of roll or any structural concerns?
