Looks like the new 6 seat Velocity just crashed yesterday…anyone know what happened? https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/343081

Forget electric flight propulsion for a minute. Electric *taxiing*???

Correct, it's Ampaire, Inc. Elliot Seguin is attached as a test pilot and it recently flew a 1000+ mile flight (nonstop)

    another tall pilot wanna be

The Zenith website states the CH650 fits pilots up to 6'4". I'm 6'2" and had a Zenith 601 XLB (same fuselage) and fit in it just fine...

HomebuiltHelp Jon Croke finds the first true Ultralight

I believe he put them on hold through the winter months because it was too cold....I'm hoping we see them start up soon.

    Buying/Flying a plane at TBO

It would be a cash buy, and that's probably what I'd end up doing if I get it... Totally agree, and that's why I'd like to find something in the 25K range, since my total budget to buy, fly and finish training is around 37-38K. ...and I'll take 30K plane over a 30K Harley any day :) Agreed...

    Buying/Flying a plane at TBO

Thanks for all the replies, this is great. Here's where I'm at: I checked out the plane and the logbooks, taxi'd it around for about 10 minutes, hit the runup area and did a couple runups to check mags and static rpm. It ran smoothly. Hope to fly it in the next week or two. Mags were just...

    Buying/Flying a plane at TBO

Question: If i were to swap out the engine with a different O-235 (like a low/mid time o-235 from an AA1 that's getting a 150HP upgrade), is that allowed even if the suffixes are different? e.g. remove the O-235-N2C and install an O-235-L2C?

    Buying/Flying a plane at TBO

    This engine is an O-235 N2C, so it's a 2400 TBO engine

    Buying/Flying a plane at TBO

Thanks, I actually stumbled on his big EAA webinar about flying past TBO yesterday. I'm about 20 minutes in but hope to get through it this weekend. Good call on the pistons. I'm pretty sure those are in there, as this is the original engine from the factory and all the literature states 2400...

    Buying/Flying a plane at TBO

I'm looking at a plane that checks most of my boxes (easy to fly, cheap to insure, low fuel burn/maintenance, tri gear, all metal so I can tie down). Only thing is, the engine is 25 hours from recommended TBO. (O-235 with approx 2375 hours TTSN, engine is 22 years old so that averages 100+...

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

it really is a nice place. In all my conversations with both locals and people who’ve visited, not one person had said they don't like it. I really like the Colts and Tri Pacers. They’re on my list as well, but I’d slightly prefer all metal or composite. But if the right one comes along...

Lol! So that's why there's always construction on the interstate whenever I head out there :)

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

I would LOVE to get a nice VariEze or Long EZ...I forgot to include that in my original list. Thanks. That's true, I suppose we could go the 103 route, especially if it's trailerable. My boys are 11 and 12, and my 11 year old has already started saving for his own ultralight, and I want to get...

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

Thanks for the recommendations and links, I talked to the 601 owner, but I was third in line and the logistics to get it across the country because it's not ferry-able was too much hassle...but I like the Skycoupe and Spacewalker, cool planes! True, I could go the shared route, but I'd have...

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

Dang, beautiful plane! I’m a little envious.. Very nice, I forgot about the Tailwind, those are cool planes like both of these, but I’d go broke renting with how much my boys want to fly :)

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

Here in southern California hangars are an enormous expense. Cheapest ones within 50 miles are about $400/month, the ones at the airport down the street from me start at about $900/month. I can get a tie down about 25 miles away for $54. There's no other expense in owning a small 2 seat LSA/EAB...

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

Wow, lots of great responses here... I totally would consider part 103 - but my two sons would disown me if I bought a single seater that I can't take them up in :) I've actually thought about this, and it's good to know that some folks have had success with this method...I just didn't want...

How to 'buy and fly' cheap in 2022?

Thanks Dana. All I really care about at this point is being up in the sky. That's my (very broad) mission :) Also, I hadn't considered the folding wing in a trailer, that could work if the plane and circumstances were right. The thought of no insurance is pretty much a non-starter. if I'm...
