    Lycoming O-320

Piper Colt. An O-290 D or D2 will work, too.

    Lycoming O-320

I need 150 hp low compression.

Sorry, I can only use an O-320 A series. Thanks.

    O-290 or O-320

O-290 (D or D2), or O-320 150 hp narrow deck. I have a running O-235 if trade is an option. Tony

    question about windmilling propellers

    1. I don't think it is a thrust reversal. You are not pulling as much air through the prop as is going past it so it is slowing down the air (and to some extent the airplane) instead of speeding it up. 2. Same as with power. The air is going the same direction.

    Bonding wood and composites

I have never tried to bond carbon fiber to wood.

    Bonding wood and composites

Basically, use any cleaner that does not leave a film or oily residue. You can also get "tack cloth" from the local auto paint supplier. They are sticky cloth that dust sticks to with no residue left behind.

    Bonding wood and composites

Also, if there are any divots or imperfections in the wood, you might try filling and sanding those areas. for a filler, I use micro balloon mixed with resin, or talc mixed with resin. Mix it stiff so it is not runny. Brush on some resin before applying the filler. I buy talc in bulk, but know...

    Bonding wood and composites

Sand with a fine grit. You want a nice finish. Vacuum, then wipe with a damp cloth and let dry. I actually use a cloth dampened with paint thinner. Not wet, just damp. Than let dry. Again, this is for vinyl ester prep. I don't use much epoxy, but I would probably do the same.

    Bonding wood and composites

I think there is only one kind of styrene. If you mean manufacturer, it doesn't matter. It stinks and you don't want to do it in your basement. Outside or a detached garage is best.

    Bonding wood and composites

After sanding I use styrene to clean the area. This also softens (dissolves) the resin surface and allows a better bond. This is only for vinyl ester resin. For epoxy, clean the just sanded surface with denatured alcohol. It doesn't leave any residue. Tony

    Bonding wood and composites

I mostly use vinyl ester resin. It has almost all of the strength of epoxy (which is way over the required strength) but it is much easier to use and much more affordable. Vinyl ester also retains its strength and shape under higher temperatures than epoxy (room temp hand layups). You should do...

    Bonding wood and composites

Wood has a layer of oxidation, like almost all other materials. Wood needs to be sanded and dust free before bonding to any composite. I also find it better to wet out the wood first, then apply the composite material, then wet out the composite some more. Then keep an eye on it to see if you...

    Bonding wood and composites

No matter what system you use, it all depends on how well you prep the wood. I've had great success after a few great failures! Tony

    TRAVEL AIR MYSTERY SHIP PLANS

Can give me the rough dimensions? I'm looking at about a 17'-19' fuselage, short of the fire wall. I assume it should be fine in front, since it is designed for the same engine I want to use. Thanks. Tony

    TRAVEL AIR MYSTERY SHIP PLANS

Is there a detailed drawing of the fuselage frame with all the tube sizing? I am planning a nondescript airplane from that era. I have a Wright R-975 I want to use. I need plans for a fuselage frame to fit it. What are the rough dimensions of that fuselage? Thanks. Tony
