    Good choices for STOL ultralights

I'd be happy to get even that if it could actually go that far and just needing a top overhaul for a 2 stroke. Here is the exchange I was looking for Rotax vs Hirth. A must read for anyone considering either engine, IMO. Whether or not things have changed for Hirth since then, others please...

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

That's why I haven't ruled out a Quicksilver, but think a used 503 Rotax is preferred at this time to what else is out there. The Hirth engine looks good on paper, read from another who was pretty darn adamant about wanting to know if there has ever been a single case of anyone making it to the...

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

You know, that's a thought, never thought of reversing the electric motors on landing. Also, if someone would take a FLPHG (Foot Launched Powered Hang Glider) and just substitute one electric motor along with a ground adjustable prop, that would maybe solve the problem and let you land pretty...

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

I've given those some thought before. Plenty of choices to consider, that is for sure. Not sure about altitude on those either. Shame, we all don't have an easy way to test many of these before we buy.

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

Will head back up in mid-Sept to see if maybe I can find room for more runway. Not easy to do on this 42 acres with the terrain the way it is. Where I'm planning it, only slopes about 10 degrees about 60' wide or so, before it goes back up to 35-50 degrees. Maybe I could do 350', not sure...

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

No trees, at least not anymore since fire, but do have two deep gulches at ends of planned runway. Hardly any flat ground on the 42 acres, what flat ground there is, I'm going to have to make. Neighbor lets me rent out heavy machinery, where I'm hoping to make a runway.

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

The 6 will get me from TX to CO. Hangar is still 32.5 miles away from cabin. Would like to have a single place ultralight to fly me to cabin which is 24 miles as the crow flies. For now, my jeep does the job. The better TO&L the better, cruise doesn't concern me much. I should say, did have...

So the specs listed for the single place T-Bird are probably not very accurate?

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

You're right about limit load, not useful load. I understand ultimate load is 1.5X the limit load, but when I read from manufacturers, they are not always clear which one they are specificying. Is it standard to just list limit load?

    Good choices for STOL ultralights

Not concerned about it being 103 compliant, actually prefer one that is built without being restrained by certain weight limitations. Researched quite a bit, and Kolb Aircraft are certainly high up on my list. Load factor is 4+ 2-. I assume that is useful load? It's hell finding any service...

Black Fly electric Ultralight at Oshkosh: Vertical TO&L

Thanks, Topaz. Ya know, I did a search engine before I posted here on the google, but still missed it. I'm always late to the party, so feel free to delete this thread, there's plenty of discussion on the other.

Black Fly electric Ultralight at Oshkosh: Vertical TO&L

Not sure where to put this crazy thing. Never heard of it until about 30 minutes ago when my brother mentioned it to me. Has eight electric engines, weighing 4 lbs each, limited range to 25 miles due to ultralight weight limitations, I'm sure in the experimental category, more batteries could be...

Has the Hummelbird and its kin have any airworthiness issues?

It's a cute plane, and it certainly drew me in many years ago. Lyle Dickerson's Hummelbird was exceptionally outstanding. See pics here: http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photos/N504LD:1.html I bought the plans (original Hummelbird, not the UltraCruiser) over a decade ago, and...

    Craigslist today..

Houston area, looks like a nice Airbike. These all seem to be fairly consistent in the price he's asking. Looking for a STOL aircraft myself, never flown one of these, has anybody? https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/avo/d/team-airbike-aircraft/6625297526.html

    Pegazair -100

I hope many appreciate just how cool of a plane this is. If I wasn't up to my eyeballs in projects already, I'd seriously pursue this plane. Best of luck to you, hope somebody thinks as much of this plane as I do.

Where can I purchase the FAA, Air Traffic Control Handbook 7110.65?

Thanks fellow aviators, you guys are good...and quick. Downloaded bmcj's link which will do me fine for now. Just want to get used to their phraseology find out what is acceptable, and what is frowned upon. And yeah, BJC, been listening to some youtube communications, as well as some ATC radio...

Where can I purchase the FAA, Air Traffic Control Handbook 7110.65?

I understand this is the bible of all air traffic communication, and has what phraseology is used in just about every situation. Want to learn more to where I'm more comfortable flying in such airspace. Just wondering where I can obtain such a handbook. I checked Amazon, and they only have it...

    How to properly stress relief

Here's a bit more from Finch's 'Welding Handbook' this part entitled 'Stress -Relieving Myths that will give others something to consider: "For at least 50 years, old time weldors have advised new weldors to reheat tubular structures after the structure has been completely welded. They tell...

    How to properly stress relief

Here is an excerpt from the Welder's handbook by Richard Finch and what he has to say that I think many might find helpful: "Stress-relieving is accomplished by heating part or all of the structure to about two-thirds of the melting point and then holding the structure at that temperature for...
