    2.0 Ecotec 260HP

I'm curious as to whether anyone's gotten further with these things. I'm driving an '06 HHR with the 2.4, and am very happy with it as a car engine, and have wondered how it'd be in front of a CH801. Maybe even a 750, slightly derated.

    Why not more motorcycle engines?

They sound nice, too. Much more airplaney than some of the smaller Rotaxen.

    Gyro or Fixed Wing?

Small world. I went to school there too, though Ron wasn't one of my instructors.

I need a disign for big boys

I went up with another guy in a Champ, and the airplane did surprisingly well with both of us and more than half fuel. I was able to fit in the back seat with no problem.

    STOL 801

I've flown the 801, and loved the heck out of it. It did quite well with three of us on board and about 2/3 fuel, no baggage, with the Lyc o-360 in the demo bird. While the airplane oughta be able to operate out of your field (after you've checked the approaches and all that), I'd suggest that...

I need a disign for big boys

I'm kinda in the same boat, at 328lbs and 6'4" Interestingly, at my height, that becomes more of an issue than girth, and I can easily sit in a Piper Tomahawk with my wife. Can't really fly it with much fuel, though... A fellow I know has a CGS Hawk, weighs close to what I do albeit shorter...

    Hydraulics For Ultralights ??

I like the idea of adapting proven tech from other fields. Bicycle hydraulic brakes are very lightweight and effective for their purpose, and I would think they'd be relatively easy to adapt for ultralight or maybe even light sport aircraft brakes. Maybe even speed brakes for light sailplanes...

Getting more speed from a Pietenpol

For really fast wood, I'd say a Barracuda. But, naw, something like a Pete is meant for enjoyable wind-in-your-face type flying, not really for cross countries.... unless you're the adventuresome sort. I've always wanted to take a low-n-slow airplane on a long trip, just for the experience.

    Hydrogen powered glider.

Except that they were throwing Twinkies, in my dream... Are we off topic or what? :)

    Hydrogen powered glider.

The Socrates "quote" was a joke, from the movie Real Genius.

    Newer GM inline engines

I don't remember the HP curve specifically, but the torque is surprisingly close to 300 through most of the rpm range. You thinking about direct drive then? That'd be pretty cool.

    Hydrogen powered glider.

Re: Hydrogen glider. There's this, too. :)

    Newer GM inline engines

Low mileage pullouts are common on eBay now, and pretty cheap. I may grab one, check it out, and see if I can... aw, dang. I can't really afford a good PSRU right now...

    Newer GM inline engines

These suckers have some pretty darned good power for their size, and the 4.2 straight six in my Trailblazer has a darned flat torque curve. Aluminum block and all, seems like it oughta be a pretty good candidate weight/power wise. I'm supposedly pushing 270 hp and nearly 300lbs of torque. Also...

    Those bargain basement airplanes

Champ, for this big-keestered fellow. Unfortunately, they aren't so bargain-basement anymore.

    Falconar builders

I've run across a good deal on a partially complete F12, though there's still enough left to qualify for the 51% rule. While I'm not finding a lot of information on the airplanes, everything I *am* finding seems to indicate that they're pretty solid designs. ...I hope... There must be a few...

    plans for sale

The Falconar, that's an F12, right? I may be able to get a good deal on a partially completed one, but the seller isn't entirely sure whether the plans are complete. A spare set would set my mind at ease, should I buy the airplane.

    Bounsall Super Prospector

I'm very interested, and I'm wondering, given my aforementioned physical traits (6'4 and 310), whether the airplane will really be able to handle me. Also, I've no experience with welding (yet, that is... this might be a great reason to learn) so it's an unfamiliar construction method for me...
